Last meeting: Colchester
United 3, Norwich City 0 (March
31, 2007): Norwich City’s
Jeckyll-and-Hyde run of form
continued at Layer Road as they
crashed to a defeat at the hands
of Colchester United. Three
goals in the space of 20 minutes
in the second half did the damage.
Ex-Canary striker Jamie Cureton
struck the first blow after
52 minutes after excellent work
from strike partner Chris Iwelumo.
Richard Garcia added the second
11 minutes later and Iwelumo
made it 3-0 after 72 minutes
following an error by Andy Hughes.

Norwich 2 (Gavin, Brennan)
Chances: A turbulent
pre-season for the U's as the
Layer Road side became victims
of their own success last season.
Their surprise 10th placed finish
alerted several clubs to their
prized assets and the likes
of Jamie Cureton, Chris Iwelumo
and Richard Garcia have moved
on. The departure of last year’s
lethal front pairing of Cureton
and Iwelumo has led many to
believe United might struggle
with ‘second season syndrome’
in the Championship. But Williams
has made some astute looking
signings, while the experience
of Sheringham will also be a
bonus. Almost impossible to
beat at Layer Road last campaign
and a repeat should ensure mid-table
respectability.
Prediction:
17th
