The squad 2004-2005: Jim Brennan
Updated May 2005

Jim BrennanPosition: Left-back/Left midfield
Age: 28
Born: Toronto, Canada (May 8, 1977)
Date signed: July 1, 2003
Signed from: Nottingham Forest, free transfer
Contract: June 2006
City debut: v Crewe Alexandra H (November 29, 2003)
Season 2004/05 Appearances (max 41): 11 Goals: 0
Career appearances: 27 Goals: 2
International honours: Canada
Former clubs: Sora Lazio, Bristol City, Huddersfield Town (loan), Nottingham Forest.

For the second season running the Canadian was a bit-part player at Carrow Road. The fact that he has started only 15 of Norwich's 89 games since his arrival from Nottingham Forest says it all really. Only came into the reckoning when City's injury crisis started to bite – and quickly faded from view again when the situation eased.

Verdict: Brennan's versatility makes him a useful squad player but it remains to be seen if he fancies another potentially frustrating season at Carrow Road.

OFF DUTY (2004):

Married: No. My girlfriend's name is Sarah.
Children: No.
Home: Norwich.

Current car: Mercedes ML 500.
First car: Renault Megane.

How do you relax away from football?: I just like to take it easy, maybe by relaxing at home or doing a bit of shopping. I also enjoy doing a spot of deejaying - at home, I hasten to add!

Favourite other sport to play: Hockey (that's ice-hockey over here) and golf.
Favourite other sport to watch: I like to catch up with all the North American sports, like football, basketball and hockey. There's a channel which shows all that stuff.
Favourite holiday destination: Miami.
Favourite television programme: The Office.
Favourite film: Swingers. That's a comedy/drama about a couple of actors starring John Favreau and Vince Vaughn.
Favourite restaurant/eating place: Medina, a Moroccan restaurant in Prince of Wales Road.
Favourite read: Anything by Michael Moore.
Recommended listening: I like rock 'n roll music. Nickelback and AC/DC are two of my favourite bands.

Best thing about living in Norfolk: I've only been down here since July but I've settled down very quickly. It's a really nice place to live.
Worst thing about living in Norfolk: I haven't found one yet. It's obviously a long way from home, but I've been in the UK for nine years now so it's not a problem. There's plenty of time to visit Canada during the summer.

First result you look out for: Nottingham Forest. It's sad to see them struggling so badly at the moment.

What was the first team you played for: Woodbridge in Canada. The first senior side I played for was Sora Lazio in Montreal.

What would you have done for a living if you hadn't made the grade?: I might have tried to be a hockey player, but to be honest I had my heart set on soccer from a very early age. I think it must be in our blood because my brother Ryan, who is 19, also loves the game and I reckon he's got an excellent chance of making the grade. He's a centre half and is currently on a sporting scholarship in the US.
What would you like to do when your playing days are over?: I'd like to get involved in coaching, either in the Canada or the US. I'll certainly be trying to get some qualifications under my belt over the next few years.
