One of the real success stories
of the season. McKenzie started slowly, scoring just once
in his opening 21 games, most of which were as a substitute.
But after teaming up with Dean Ashton there was no stopping
him and he ended the season with a respectable haul of seven
goals. No-one put in more effort for the Canary cause than
him.
Verdict: Roll on
next season! Expect a fired-up McKenzie to score goals by
the bucket-load in the Championship. Fingers crossed, his
partnership with Ashton should flourish at that level.
OFF DUTY (2004):
Marital status: Married to Vanessa.
Children: Jordan, Kasey and Mariya.
Home: We're living in rented accommodation
in Bawburgh.
Current car: BMW X5.
First car: Fiat Punto.
How do you relax away from football?: If
I've got a few days off I'll pop back to London to see the
family. Usually I just like to take it easy and play with
the kids. That takes up plenty of time.
Favourite other sport to play: These days
it's golf. I've just taken up the game and really enjoy it.
In the past it would be boxing. I don't really think I should
get in the ring again now because I might end up enjoying
it too much!
Favourite other sport to watch: Boxing. I
was at ringside a lot when I was younger (dad Clinton and
uncle Duke were both champions) and I enjoy watching the big
fight nights on the telly.
Favourite holiday destination: The Maldives.
Favourite television programme: '24'. I'm
following the new series on Sky.
Favourite restaurant/eating place: Nandos
in Norwich.
Favourite read: I enjoy biographies, especially
sporting ones. Muhammad Ali, Ian Wright and Malcolm X are
three of the ones I've read recently.
Recommended listening: I'm a soulful person
and my musical tastes reflect that. Music Soulchild, an American
r&b artiste, is one of my favourites.
Best thing about living in Norfolk: I haven't
been here long but from what I've seen so far it's a nice
place to live. My wife and children like it here and the boys
have settled well at school.
Who's result do you look out for first: To
be honest I'm not really interested in anyone except Norwich.
What was the first team you played for: Alpha
FC in South London. My first professional club was Crystal
Palace.
What would you have done if you hadn't made the grade?
I would probably have followed the family tradition and become
a boxer. I had a few bouts as a schoolboy and enjoyed it but
then football took over. But as far is boxing is concerned
I still know the score!
What will you do when your playing days are over:
Like a lot of players I'd like to get involved in property.
But at the moment I'm only concentrating on my football.
