Signed from Spurs at the beginning of the season, he was used
as an emergency striker before getting a run of games in his
favoured position in central defence. Could be considered
unfortunate to lose his place to Jason Shackell in February,
and – apart from a substitute appearance in March –
was unable to win back his first team place.
Another player who disappeared from view at the end of the
season. We last saw him start a game at Blackburn on February
12 when he was part of a City defence that conceded three
soft goals. After that he made just one appearance as a substitute
and more often than not failed to even make the bench. Had
a decent spell in mid-season, but so far Doherty's big-money
move from Spurs hasn't been a success.
Verdict: The Republic of Ireland international
is still under contract at Carrow Road – but it wouldn't
exactly come as a massive shock if there was a parting of
the ways during the summer.
