I keep hearing how good it is, but don't want to start watching it half way through.

If I buy the DVDs and they're crap I will blame you!

I'm a fairly recent convert, FX showed Seasons 1-4 back to back before the new episodes started on Monday, and you definitely don't want to start watching half way through.

I'd be amazed if you thought it was crap to be honest but just make sure you give it a good three or four episodes before you make any judgement. The beauty of The Wire is that it moves at such a slow pace which gives you plenty of time to watch the characters develop. It's unlike most cop shows (CSI etc.) who wrap up each investigation at the end of the show and instead moves through the story quite deliberately, almost like a novel rather than a TV show. The characters are incredibly well rounded and the best bit is that there is no good vs evil or hero vs villian, so you're just as likely to root for a drug dealing murderer as you are for a cop.

The only flaw in the whole programme is that it has encouraged me to use language that a white boy from Norwich should probably avoid Embarrassed [:$]
