I have to mourn the loss of Bloc Party. Their first album was
excellent and really looked like it was going to shake "Indie" by the
balls and wake it up... then for their second album they descended into
pompous posturing and lost their edge to become very, very dull.
Now their new single is out and it is, quite frankly, just noise, its
awful! Why did this happen?!

Although to be honest Evil, Flux is a great single. Mercury isn't as good I admit, and Silent Alarm was by far the better album, wow what can I say about that.
In my opinion Indie as I used to know it died the day The Libertines split, their self titled album and Up The Bracket were both just simply stunning. Since then we have had a plethora of bands using 'The' in their name, and not one has really got me thinking, yes, this is the new way to go. It's a shame, because commercial pop is pretty terrible nowadays, but I just have the feeling that most indie bands are heading in the same way i.e. Scouting for Girls, even people like The Enemy.
I pray for the day someone like The Libs come back, Babyshambles weren't up to it, and Dirty Pretty Things, although good in their own right, just didn't have the same sort of emotion in their songs.
Come back Indie, I miss you!

i agree jas, the holloways are great, but after generator they couldnt quite get that second single through which was a shame. i saw them quite alot when i was at uni, because i lived in holloway so they played in small bars around the area.
a fantastic band which i encourage you all to look up are the cinematics, small band from scotland who do well in europe and america but not the UK because their record label are rubbish. but they're the kind of indie band that this country needs at the moment, very much like editors but with a little more bite.

'the music', their new album is fantstic too, id also recommend captain, blood red shoes, dan le sac vs scroobius pip, late of the pier, envy & other sins and does it offend you, yeah? and id like to make a point that if you get a chance to see the latter, dont miss it!!!

I thought Indie died when Oasis played Knebworth. Hot Chip do rock. Well, actually, they do disco, but they rock at disco. There has always been mainstream music for the masses, and the more interesting stuff that you have to look a bit harder for. My favourites at the moment are Carina Round, Vampire Weekend, and Hot Chip - and I only heard of 2 of those because of radio 1. I think that most radio 1 DJ's dislike the playlist system, but accept it as a neccesary evil in exchange for doing the job they like, and work pretty hard to put fringe stuff into their programming.

I don't think that the music itself is the problem on Radio 1 - as you
say, Blah, they have a playlist to stick to whether they like it or not
- but they could at least ensure that the on-air "talent" aren't a
bunch of morons. Which, in the case of Radio 1, they are; Chris
Moyles, Jo Whiley, Nihal, Vernon Gay, Tim Westwood (went to school in
Norwich I discovered yesterday), Judge Jules... all complete and utter
brainless muppets who either shout their way through the show or have
their tongues so far up the arses of the "celebrities" they worship
that the tip can be seen poking out of the other's mouth. That's
what gets on my nerves as I sit subjected to it in the office every
day; their voices!
I'll leave Fearne Cotton out of this though, because although she's slightly annoying I seriously would...
Another decent indie band, all the way from Australia: Howling Bells

I hate Whiley, wouldn't touch her with a barge pole... I would, however, knock the back out of Cotton... ![Smile [:)]](/cs/emoticons/emotion-1.gif)
