great to see Elbow win the Mercury prize, a great album, not sure if it made my list but certainly should do. Can't wait to see them next month.

Agreed Marty, it was either them or Radiohead for me... the biggest joke was the Last of the Shadow Puppets album being on there - they're quite a boring duo really and are only really known because of the Arctic Monkeys chappy... pleasant enough but nowhere near "groundbreaking" or "influential" which is what the Mercury prize should be, for me anyway....

Lappin, the Wombats album is called A Guide to Love, Loss and Desperation... incidentally, I was an extra on the video for Kill the Director, I've never seen a high quality version though so haven't been able to spot myself milling about in the background.  I'm in there somewhere, though!Smile [:)]

Yes, the radiohead album is very good too, they never turned up and apparently you never win unless you are there! I think this is Elbow's best album to date. I am also not a fan of the Shadow Puppets, not helped by my dislike for the massively over rated Arctic monkeys. I remember when M-People won the Mercury prize, how odd.

I was saying to the Mrs how we should get tickets for the Elbow gig in Leicester and then realised the Mercury prize was on TV, I was willing Elbow not to win so that I could still get a ticket! I feel a bit guilty for that, anyway, never managed to get a ticket online, all sold out, but called the venue and no problems, should be good.

I saw Elbow a few years ago at a festival, before I liked them... just kinda chatted during the gig and let it pass me by somewhat... have seen Guy Garvey stumbling onto stage to sign with I Am Kloot a few times, and saw him in Big Hands next to the Academy, but didn't chat with him...

Blimey, Beauseant, well done for reminding me about this!! After my last laptop got stolen and I wasn't on here for ages, I kind of let it slide... right, guess I'd better get on and compile the finished Top 10!! Unless people still want to vote for a bit??

As a Cure fan I thought you be interested in a listen to this rare version of Quicksand by Bowie - the Cure link is that Robert Smith is on guitar & backing vocal.

Ps - There are not enough Bowie albums selected within this thread - Bowie is a Rock God for Christs sake!

NEXT!

Sadly mate Bowie doesn't feature much as most people who posted on here are under 35 and Bowies best stuff is too old for them to remember...

And thats the bottom line because Stone Cold said so.....

I am surprised that Disintegration never made it, a great album, reminds of meeting my other half at uni and it was about the only cd we could both tolerate! I like Beth Orton but think her first album was her best. Haven't heard the JB album but Edith Bowman was raving on about him today on radio 1, trying to get his version hallelujah in the charts.

Yes, thats what I thought, I think she means well but I hate how radio 1 try to big up and old album but then refuse to play anything more than a year old unless it is a special occassion. They recently had a series of classic albums (Dark side of the moon, Prodigy - Jilted generation, etc) which I think they talked about and played in the evening slot, why bother if they have no intention of playing such music throughout the day? I despise radio 1 but have to put up with it sometimes at work. Why play Duffy and not Dusty Sprinfield, why play Oasis and not the Beatles, most ganster rap and not public Enemy etc? what is wrong with music history? that's why I put radio 2 on, it's not perfect but at least there is more variety (or radio 6 if I have a DAB).

Simply because its not radio 1s job to do that. Its a station for new music, catering for an audience that wants new music. Now I'm not a fan of most of the daytime programing but for me if you want older music you listen to radio 2, its what its there for.
