The first round of games in the County 5IVES Winter Leagues have proved to be exciting, at all of the 5IVES centres across the county. Our focus this week is 5IVES at the FDC in Norwich, where 922 goals were scored in week one.
• Monday Leagues
These set the tone for the week, with some keenly contested and high scoring games. The classy ‘Chemistry Club’ started the defence of their Premier Division title in typical fashion, with a 15-3 demolition of ‘Big Pimpin’.
‘Mullers’ were big winners in the Championship, with ‘Chino Warriors’ and ‘Bayern Bru’ setting the pace in Leagues One and Two respectively. The Warriors even managed a clean sheet, which is almost unheard of in 5-a-side football!
The Ladies League fixtures also started on Monday, with the pick of the bunch pitting ‘Lowestoft Town Ladies’ against ‘Pidge Has Flown’. Lowestoft came out on top, winning 12-7 in what was an enthralling contest enjoyed by the spectators in attendance.
There were also good wins for ‘Misfits’ and ‘2014’ in the Ladies Premiership, whilst ‘Chompoo’, ‘Hardly Athletic’ and ‘Costessy Sports Ladies’ made winning starts in the Championship.
• Tuesday Leagues
The night’s big winners were ‘Multiple Scoregasms’, who tallied a 20-2 win against ‘Space Invaders’ in League One.
The ever reliable ‘Forest Green’ are the early pace setters in the Premiership, but will expect to be challenged for the title this season in what is a strong division. ‘School House FC’ announced their arrival into the Championship in style, with a 20-7 win over ‘Breckland FC’, while ‘Colonel FC’ lead the way in League Two after a good first victory.
• Wednesday Leagues
The Premier Division will be tight if the first round of results are anything to go by. Wednesday saw one draw and two games where the outcome was decided by no more than two goals.
The Championship saw ‘Lotus 7’ and ‘Farmhouse’ start in eye catching form, with ‘Orange Wednesdays’ doing the same in League One.
The wonderfully named ‘ABCDE FC’ lead the way in League Two, with ‘World V’ top of the tree in League Three.
• Thursday Leagues
‘AFC Gimmingham’ and ‘Own Worst Enemy’ both competed well in their first game in the Premier Division, after winning promotion in Autumn 2012. Gimmingham eventually lost 12-7 in a hard fought game with ‘Granny’s Baps’, while ‘Own Worst Enemy’ secured an impressive 8-4 win against ‘Fluke 2’.
Two new teams, ‘It’s All Gone Alan Tong’ and ‘Singtong’s Superstars’, had good wins in the Championship, while ‘Pathetico Madrid’ defied there name to score 15 and secure their first three point haul of the season.
The popular Thursday 7-a-side League saw ‘JMS’ the biggest winners of the evening, with a 7-2 victory against ‘Mulberry FC’. ‘SME 2’, ‘Heathwood Trucks’ and ‘Club Cabbage’ also started the campaign with wins.
• LEAGUES EXPANDING
One area we are looking to grow is our ‘Enterprise 5IVES’ League. This league takes place on Thursday evenings, with all fixtures kicking off at 6.30pm. Any business, company or organisation is welcome to enter, with the league providing an excellent opportunity for team building and socialising with work colleagues in a fun, safe and slightly competitive environment!
Any teams interested in the Enterprise 5IVES league, or indeed registering an interest to play at our County 5IVES centres across Norfolk, can do so by calling 01603 748944 or emailing County5IVES@NorfolkFA.com.
