Reports in Newcastle have claimed that Norwich City supporters vandalised a garden created in memory of former Ipswich Town manager Sir Bobby Robson yesterday.
However, Northumbria Police have confirmed that the incident has not been reported to them.
The Newcastle Evening Chronicle reported the vandalism, saying that a stone portrait of the former England, Ipswich and Newcastle boss had been defaced.
The report also stated that it was believed the garden - which is near to Newcastle’s St James’ Park stadium - had been vandalised by Canaries supporters.
Just under 2,000 fans travelled to the north-east to see Paul Lambert’s side lose the Premier League battle 1-0 on Sunday afternoon.
Liz Luff, of the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation, which raises cash for cancer research, was quoted as saying: “I was absolutely furious to find Sir Bobby’s memorial garden vandalised. Someone drew an obscenity on the middle stone which was Bobby’s portrait. It was unpleasant.
“Thankfully the council had it cleaned first thing this morning. Swift work and much appreciated.”
The garden includes a series of stones featuring images to celebrate the career of Mr Robson’s, who passed away in July 2009 aged 76.
Although a spokesman for Northumbria Police said: “The incident has not been reported to us, so we are not able to give any evidence to support one way or another.”

Abraham, the apology should come from the "journalist" and his "Editor" for creating this abjectly mischievous Headline. This sort of "writing" leaves me cold.

Now that the SBR Foundation , has confirmed that it WAS NOT a City fan responsible, maybe an apology will be heading this way from Footyboy. Holds breath and waits.

Footyboy16 - Not typical at all, no proof it was a NCFC supporter. You're a Spurs fan, why do you hate us so much?

Agree with Sid and The Brewer. Lets not make accusations before there is even a confirmed incident.

What I attempted to say, but was blocked, is that there is no evidence it was NCFC "people". It might have been. Whoever did it are the lowest low-life of the lot. The reporting is shamelessly prurient. The incident has not been reported to the Northumbria Police. Article said that twice. So how hard are the "facts"? A few in situ Geordie views might help.

Those who did this should be ashamed, truly ashamed. They are not true footie fans and should never be allowed into any game again.

I do not want to believe this dreadful act could have been done by anybody. Bobby Robson was a true gent and a real football man. If it was done by NCFC supporters, I would be even more horrified. This is the last Post. Reason:- Other.
