Anglian Combination round-up: Harleston Town win top-of-the-table clash against Norwich CEYMS

Harleston Town put themselves in pole position at the top of the Anglian Combination Premier Division as they beat title rivals Norwich CEYMS 2-1 at Wilderness Lane.

On a day where the weather decimated most of the Anglian Combination League programme, Adam Gusterson’s side narrowly edged out CEYMS, who dropped to third place as a result.

Matt Howard and Lawrence Cheese got the goals for Harleston, who are now seven points clear at the top of the table.

Lewis Allen replied for CEYMS, who slipped to their third defeat of the season.

It looks set to be a battle between Harleston and Mulbarton Wanderers for the title.

Wanderers moved up to second thanks to a 3-0 win at home to Waveney as goals from Ben Thompson, Jack Guyton and Scott Woodgate did the damage. Mulbarton sit seven points off Harleston but they do have three games in hand.

Caister had a 3-1 home win over basement side Reepham at Allendale Road. George Barnden, Gaz Ward and Keegan Middleton scored for the home side with Will Abbott getting Reepham’s consolation.

Acle leapfrogged Stalham and moved out of the drop zone thanks to a 3-0 away win at Rivers Park. Brett Colclough (2) and Seamus Bobby scored the A’s goals as they moved up to 14th in the table.

In Division One Wymondham are now seven points clear with a game in hand thanks to a thumping 11-2 win over Kirkley and Pakefield Reserves.

Jordan Rocastle (7), Chris Holmes (2), Ethan Hall and Liam Moriarty scored for Wymondham with Kaiden Goldspink and Kyle Haylock bagging for Kirkley.

Sheringham moved up to second thanks to a 3-1 win over Attleborough Town. Darren Terrington (2) and Dale Wilton earned the points for Sheringham. Lewis Holden replied for Attleborough.

UEA are third on goal difference as an Owen Betts’ double gave them a 2-0 home win over Scole.

Friday night saw the draw for the Mummery Cup semi finals took place on Radio Norfolk. Norwich CEYMS will play host to Premier Division leaders Harleston whilst Sheringham entertain Blofield.

Both ties will be played on Saturday, March 17.
