Craig Parker reveals his goal targets as King’s Lynn Town bid to head title-chasing pack
There’s nothing greedy about Craig Parker - not that 20 goals and 20 assists this season wouldn’t sort.
Parker notched his fourth at the weekend in a Linnets side which has plenty of goals in it, so laying down an early marker is no bad thing.
“I always try and get 20 goals,” he said. “I will be disappointed if I don’t get 20. Part of my role is to score and set goals up.
Twenty assists as well? I would be happy – and we get promoted as well!”
The quest for the personal accumulator continues on Tuesday evening when the Linnets host Biggleswade, whose 1-0 weekend defeat at Redditch saw them drop to eighth as Lynn jumped to second after the 2-0 win over morning leaders Tiverton.
It’s all elbows among the leading pack, but Parker Lynn are capable of muscling their way to the top.
“It is a long season and we know we have to play everybody,” he said.
“You can’t read too much into it yet, but we are playing good football and as long as we keep playing that way I am confident we can beat anyone in the league.”
It’s a bold claim, which will require more game plans like of Saturday’s when Lynn ran Tiverton ragged for 45 minutes to lead 2-0 and then managed the second half to secure a big win. It’s become a bit of trademark this season – the issue may be whether the second halves can match the first more often.
“This season we seem to be starting really fast first half, but the second half seems to be tough because we are doing all the work first half and being up two or there,” said Parker.
“But it is important that we do get going in the second half.”
The bonus was, of course, the clean sheet.
Parker added: “It’s very important – Wardy (Tom Ward) was great at the back, Pedro (goalkeeper Alex Street) as well.
“To keep a clean sheet is important because moving forward we don’t want to be conceding a lot of goals.
“Now we have got to keep the momentum going. It is here again so we want the fans to turn out under the lights. It should be a good game.
“They are a big side who will be right up there and it is important we put a marker down and get the three points to roll into next week.”
