Manchester United’s highly-rated young keeper Dean Henderson is set for a loan move to the Championship - with City a possible destination.

The Mirror report on Monday night Henderson is poised to pledge his future to the Red Devils by signing a new two year deal, with the option of a third year, before departing for another spell away from Old Trafford, following his impressive stint at League One play-off finalists Shrewsbury Town.

The 21-year-old’s future was the subject of intense speculation since that Wembley defeat, with more than 12 clubs tracking Henderson.

Bristol City were reportedly keen to sign him last summer but Jose Mourinho will now look to get Henderson a Championship loan move with City, Aston Villa, Leeds and Sheffield United all monitoring the situation.

Henderson was a key figure in the Shrews’ near miss last season playing alongside Norwich duo Carlton Morris and Ben Godfrey.

Angus Gunn has now returned to his parent club Manchester City, after a successful loan stint at Carrow Road, but with doubts over Michael McGovern’s future with the Canaries, City’s top brass must weigh up whether to bring in another keeper to provide competition for Remi Matthews.
