New manager Chris Hughton will get his entire Norwich City squad out on the training field for the first time today.

The Canaries reported back for pre-season duty on Monday and players have been undergoing individual fitness tests over the first two days of the week.

But with the first of seven pre-season matches just 10 days away - against Hertha Berlin in Gleisdorf, Austria – the real hard work starts at Colney today.

“As with most teams you generally start with testing to check what condition the players are in after the summer break. But it’s always a good day and one the players very much look forward to,” said Hughton.

“In our case we’ve got testing for the players over two days. We work the separate groups and the first time that I’ll have the whole of the team together out on the training ground will be Wednesday.

“The good thing for me is that I’m able to meet all the ones I haven’t met before individually and then have the meetings we like to have as a team on the Wednesday and we then look forward.”

Speaking on Five Live’s Monday Night Club, Hughton, who was appointed City manager nearly five weeks ago, said he was looking for a new home and would devote every possible minute to his new job.

“One thing that’s always consistent is that when you move, whichever club you go to it’s a full on job. You go to work, you go home, you go to work the next day, and in between that you go to games and watch games,” he said.

“So it almost doesn’t matter where you live. What you want is to try to make that transition a little bit smoother. There are some lovely people working here, very, very helpful.

“I’m at the moment looking for a premises because once you’re into that job it’s very much full on. You’ve got to be prepared to put in the hours.

“But the main focus is getting in and working with the players and what you’re prepared to do on the training pitch. That will always be the main focus.”

  • Kent Anglian, why don`t you suggest to Ar-chant that they write an article summarising the contract situation @ Carra Rud? With updates as & when. I`ll back you! ;-)

  • It is a very strange situation on this 'news' website. Silence for days, reworked pieces from elsewhere and very little direct 'news'. I'd prefer to see a piece saying 'we asked about (any of the items listed by MB etc) but the club was unablerefused to comment!' All the pending items must be addressed by the journos and if the club has nothing to say, then at least report that. Or are we to get lengthy interviews with Norfolk estate agents in the coming weeksmonths to fill the space?

  • My attempt to highlight the Talksport connection was....ethered. I just wish somebody would do an article about contracts. And not for any ground extension, I`m sure that`s already stitched up.

  • The fact that he is looking for a property is a contrast to the previous incumbent. I am happy with that news.

  • To avoid going to the games next season, maybe it would be more convenient for the journos to write their match reports while watching Sky Sports Match Choice at 10pm on Saturday evenings.

  • They did ask Ruddy about his injury and he stuck one finger up.

  • Fully agree with you both (MB and Russ) regarding the Journos. There are 5 football reporters in Columnists section here and not a word written for weeks. Guess we will have to wait for the Sun and the Mirror.

  • Brilliant one, MB!! That would make it three times of asking, not including the ethered ones. That would mean investigative journalism. Do you have any contacts at the Sun or the Mirror we could ask?. I notice also that Russell Martin's comments in the last article came from Talksport.

  • I hope house-hunting is not too much of a distraction. It wasn`t for his predecessor. I`m sure many of we sad NCFC obsessives would love some news (preferably good) about Mad Marc, Dani Ayala`s progress on injury front, the future of Chris Martin and, of course, a progress report on Ruddy`s digit. As opposed to space-fillers like this article.......
