Reports in the Netherlands have suggested FC Twente midfielder Leroy Fer is currently in Norwich for a medical, ahead of signing a five-year deal at Carrow Road.

To send a link to this page to a friend, you must be logged in.

The 23-year-old’s current club are believed to have accepted an offer of somewhere between 5m-8m euros for the Dutch international, with part of that amount due to his former club Rotterdam.

Fer came close to joining Everton in January, only for a failed medical to be blamed for the deal falling through. It is believed the Toffees’ interest has waned since then.

Fer is entering the final year of his FC Twente contract, although there is the option of an extra year on top.

A picture of Fer at Carrow Road’s Yellows restaurant circulated the internet during Wednesday.

  • Well what kind of number 10 are you expecting, Steady? Someone technical like Hoolahan or power like Toivonen, very different players. And yes we will play 4-5-1 for the majority and pattern the midfield but we also played 4-4-2 and with the loss of a few strikers I anticipate a bid for someone like Hooper. I seem to remember ending a lot of games 4-4-2 last season when games weren't going to plan.

He likes the club and their plans but it's a personal thing said his manager Soren Lerby. The other news in the same article says that Leroy Fer came through his medical. In a few hours or days he is a Norwich City player. Great news. Can't wait.

A grade above what we have in central midfield and a player I'm very excited about. He's a defensive midfielder but can get involved with attacks and links defence and attack superbly while having an amazing physical presence and ability to retain and regain possession. Van wolfswinkel and leroy fer in the same team will be a huge thing, have no doubts.

If we accept that Holty was a bit of lone figure up front for much of last season - we haven't lost anyone else who was significant in gaining 11th place in the PL. If we also accept that (in most cases) the dozen or so players who were released weren't really up to the mark - what is coming in - by comparison looks like absolute class ! RVW, Garrido, Redmond, Olsson all signed. Fer is being lined up now and Alderweireld + Hooper are still in the mix. Can someone please tell Hoots that Benteke wants away from Vanilla ?

It`s great to hear positive things said about our new signings, by people who`ve actually seen them in action. To me, Fer`s record is very impressive and I really hope I get to see him too. The EPL is a big draw in the USA, so Norwich are clever to court that market for new `fans abroad` with all the potential merchandising and image rights stuff that goes with it. Our CEO is a very canny man. I just pray we don`t become the 7th Premiership Club to be acquired by an American owner. A bit Luddite, I admit, but I`m a "Little Norwicher"!

They talk about 30 million euro's for Ricky and Leroy Fer. 15 million transfermoney and 15 million euro's salary. Fer will sign a contract till 2018. In 2010 i was in Norwich for a period and fell in love with the city and the club. And it's growing stronger every day. Norwich bought some great players and it will be a great season. I think it will attract people from Holland to come over for a few days and see Norwich play. It's only a 40 minute flight from Amsterdam. They need a bigger stadium cause it's almost always sold out.

Overall last years team looked very good especially when all were fully fit for the last couple of games. Can't wait for the season to get under way to see the new boys in action.

Likewise, I think we now have enough good defenders in the squad, Bennet for example had some great performances at the end of the season and for me, looked better than Turner as he has more pace to recover, so complimented Bassong very well. Given that Martin can also play centre back we have competition for places, do we really need more cover. I would much rather see a couple of promising young forwards coming in or one proven and one gamble so to speak.

Solid signing if it happens & will greatly underpin the defensive resources. I really know nothing about Leroy Fer. As you say, TK, if these two happen it just leaves the paucity of striking options to resolve. Then there is the need to replace the back-room staff that "defected" to Villa? (Divot-Speak). :-))

Has anyone looked at the NCFC website recently, apart from MB? It lists 20 players, no Ayala or Rudd and has yet to include our other two recent signings. One can also only speculate what is the future for Surman, Fox and Barnett, all of whom are on the list? Adding pace to our defence is a must as it has been a weakness since being in the Prem, and with him we have done that. If Fer does come, then I would be happy with what we have once we add another striker to the mix. As for the discussion around tactics, last season we struggled for goals because we lacked someone who could take the ball of the defence and distribute it effectively. We also lacked pace in our forward line to be able to launch quality counter attacks. Hopefully, the new signings will change all that:-)

And until then we must wait. Because Paddy is in the inner circle while us plebs are on the periphery, jealously looking in.

  • We have a natural affinity for the Dutch in these parts, Antoine. They brought us hops, drained our fenlands and taught us how to `market garden`. We also adopted Derek Niven van den Bogaerde as one of our own. I resided in a little Suffolk village where the local café\restaurant was taken over by a young couple of Dutch\East Indies descent. Lovely folk, and it inspired me to try to learn a little Dutch. They kindly advised me to stick to English! Their 6-year old daughter spoke and wrote better English than we locals!

And like everyone else, I am in dreamland with all these big names linked and more than likely to join the club. Incredible isn't the word!! Hope you guys are brushing up on your pronunciation skills what with Van Wolfswinkle, Alderweireld, Quagliarella and the latest I've heard is Konoployanka. Try saying that all at once. But really this is just amazing transfer activity by the club. Talk about showing intent. Brilliant work by Hoots and McNally. otbc

Just a bit worried though that we could end up with a forward line which, although exciting, have no experience of the Premier League. Anyone else think this is a concern?

In fact like everyone else I have never heard of him. Going back to more important things. I think at one time Barry McGuire was going to be in the Mamas and Papas and this was going to be their first release. He was a one hit wonder although I did know someone who bought his LP which I think was called Eve of Destruction, surprisingly.

"Old Boy Watch":- Cody McDonald has joined Gillingham. He liked it there when he was on loan from us, as part of the Simeon Jackson deal. Top-scored there and made no secret of the fact he wanted to stay, but the Gills didn`t have the cash, apparently. Now he has his wish; he`s only 27 and could have a good career in L1. Gillingham finally got their man for free! Things have changed a lot in 4 years!

He's probably still trying to compute the fact our strong board has held onto ruddy against big spenders Chelsea and the fact chris Hughton is the direct reason nathan Redmond has signed for us. Maybe he's still asking who will be brought in to replace holt, maybe someone should jntroduce him to van wolfswinkel? Because he's either so senile that he's forgotten we've signed a Dutch international striker or he's blocking it out from his mind. But of course, everything is going to pot because lambert took our conditioning coach. Pick your side guys, the "we are improving the squad and will be strong next year with a good brand of football" side or the "urine soaked tin foil hat and pants" brigade

Of course it's sad to see the likes of Grant Holt leave but with the addition of players of Fer's and RVW's ability, we will get by just fine. However we need to keep this ambition going by: a. Actually complete this Fer deal. b. Keep looking at the bigger players and c. Keep hold of our own big guns, such as Ruddy and Pilkington who I'm sure will attract interest this summer. Maybe BJ will be looked at too given the Swansea speculation previously.

It will be interesting to see if there will be a more attacking option when teams come to Carra Rd to defend a point. Let's go maniac.

If Fer is on the plane to the USA on monday i think they don't look back anymore but to the future. And what a great player he is. Like you said: a wild beast. But a great one. It will be a nightmare for defenders. If he attacks it's like if steam is coming out of his nose and his ears. It's very powerful. For the fans it will be so exciting.

  • Both my knees were crocked playing rugby 25 years ago and I have just emerged from hospital following my 4th knee operation. Knees can be cleaned up, repaired and replaced but never completely "fixed". Many players have replacement ACLs. As Antoine says, any damage will show up on an MRI. Players often have extensive surgeries that will keep them going into their 30s even though they will pay for it later with arthritis and other complications. However, damaged parts are often more likely to suffer further damage and so it all comes down to how much discount do you get for damaged goods. That is what takes the time.

In the seventies our neighbours introduced a couple of Dutchmen into their side and they transformed the team into one of the best in England. I think our two will transform City into a more attacking side scoring more goals.

I hope to see them get in Alderweirald and another striker Doye looks a decent player but overpriced if they are asking £10 million. I still think Hooper would be a different striker and offer contrast to RVW. I watched some tapes of RVW yesterday and he seems particularly good at finding space in the box and finishing. I didn't see much evidence of him being a target man whereas Hooper is. I think Hollahan would have a field day feeding RVW. It looks as if our expectations for squad building are about to bare fruit. I feel guilty about my up to now impatience. OTBC.

This morning the dutch newspapers said that Norwich had an agreement with Ajax for Toby Alderweireld. And that it's up to Toby now. Great defender, shy guy, is from Belgium and plays for the national team. Is very respected by the Ajax fans and other football fans in Holland. Plays like his best friend Jan Vertonghen (Tottenham Hotspur). The same style. Will be great for Norwich if Toby decides to come. He was for me not only the greatest football player on earth but looking at him was watching art in the highest form. If you watch Johan Cruijff Nr 14 on DVD you will see what i mean. It's an older movie but it's so fabulous. Ricky is no Cruijff but he has something that i saw in Cruijff. He has no fear. And he scored a lot of goals for all teams he played for. And if you mention his name to the Celtic defenders (FC Utrecht - Celtic 4 - 0 Europe League) they start to hyperventilate. Ricky scored 3 goals. He was a nightmare for them. Time will tell but the dutchies will feel at home in Norwich and do a great work.
