The national newspapers’ views on Norwich City’s 5-0 defeat at Liverpool.

• Norwich City:

5 Mark Bunn: Given the emphatic scoreline, City’s keeper was still one of the better performers. Which says it all.

5 Russell Martin: Difficult task against Jordan Henderson was made all the harder by Glen Johnson’s licence to raid forward at will.

4 Michael Turner: Glad to see the back of Liverpool this season in the league. Badly slipped for the second and fifth goals.

4 Ryan Bennett: Headed at Brad Jones early on from close in. Struggled with the movement of Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge.

4 Javier Garrido: Pulled out of position too often. Liverpool’s fourth a classic example. The axis with Elliott Bennett did not work.

5 Robert Snodgrass: One class early free-kick should have brought an opener for Ryan Bennett. In reverse gear most of the day.

6 Alex Tettey: Bit into one early challenge on Steven Gerrard, but fighting too many fires in the engine room.

5 Bradley Johnson: Along with Alex Tettey incapable of denying the likes of Gerrard time and space to weave their magic.

5 Elliott Bennett: Question mark over the space afforded Stewart Downing for the fourth goal. Tough gig down the left.

5 Jonny Howson: One or two encouraging pieces of link play in the first 25 minutes. Faded into the midfield malaise thereafter.

5 Grant Holt: Handful in that same opening phase. But increasingly isolated as the hosts established dominance.

Subs: Anthony Pilkington (for Snodgrass) 4, Wes Hoolahan (for Elliott Bennett) 5

• Liverpool:

6 Brad Jones: Clean sheet and the sort of quiet shift he would have went to bed on Friday night dreaming about.

6 Andre Wisdom: Looks a prospect. Fearless in the air and muscular presence up and down that right flank.

6 Jamie Carragher: The vocal chords got more of a work out than the ageing legs. Leader and organiser.

6 Daniel Agger: The Dane is now coming into the best years of his career. Strong in the air. Impressive going forward.

6 Glen Johnson: Appeared to be rivalling Jordan Henderson for that attacking role down the left in the second period.

7 Stewart Downing: Looked to be on his way out of the club. Could still be a key part of the masterplan. First-time pass for the fourth.

6 Lucas: Happy to stay in the shadows around the star names, but offered the extra insurance to a composed backline.

8 Stevem Gerrard: One long range hit turned back the clock. Not the marauding presence of old, but still the class act on show

7 Jordan Henderson: Many more goals like his first exocet and that battle to win over the doubting Liverpool public will turn in his favour.

8 Luis Suarez: As good a striking display as his Carrow Road masterclass. Settled for just the one goal against his favourite foe.

8 Daniel Sturridge: Appears to have established an instant telepathy with Luis Suarez. Simple goal but a home debut to savour.

Subs: Raheem Sterling (for Lucas) 5, Fabio Borini (for Sturridge) 5, Joe Allen (for Henderson) 5

  • Bennett had a tough shift on the left. WHY the left?? Gutless performance throughout, from players who have proved many times that they are NOT like that. So why??

  • Agree MB. We were ok for first 20mins. Quite bright with a good chance to go one up. Then it all fell apart. Wonder where they stayed he he. It did look bad as we were so slow and missed Basso big time. Still believe OTBC
