Norwich City are understood to have added a new member to their Academy team by recruiting Luton Town youth development officer Gregg Broughton.

To send a link to this page to a friend, you must be logged in.

Broughton, who has spent six years at Kenilworth Road, is reported to have been handed a role in recruitment for 16 to 21-year-olds at Carrow Road.

The Hatters’ managing director, Gary Sweet, praised Broughton for his efforts on behalf of the club.

“We would like to pay tribute to Gregg, who has done a marvellous job over the past six years at this club and wish him well for his future away from Kenilworth Road,” he said.

Broughton’s old role at Luton is being split three ways with former assistant manager Wayne Turner heading up the team, assisted by Matt Stannard as youth operations manager and Lee Cowley as youth coaching manager.

Last season, the Canaries announced plans to radically overhaul their academy system to try to “return to our roots” in producing young players.

City applied for category one status, the highest available level, in the new four-tier academy system being introduced in the elite player performance plan, backed by the Premier League and Football League from 2012-13.

  • Is this Billy as in Le Bookie - Wwat transfer news do you want ? Apart from the twists and turns in the Steve Whittaker story, what else do we need ? We already have a squad that is good enough for a top 10 finish next season. OTBC

  • Got ethered by saying how well "Hucks" book was written. Read it on my wet holidays and the Norwich bit was really interesting when you consider the amount of players that went through the team, and managers of course..I forgot about Peter Grant, and the Roeder bit is good. Thinks the same as me when Worthy dumped Roberts and McKay..they could have kept us in the premiership....good book...good man.

  • I agree with you, DC. We had Ryan Bennett and Jonny Howson arrive in January, plus we have Ayala and Vaughan hopefully fully fit this season and the two new arrivals. Who knows, Marc Tierney might even be over his 'injuries' as well. although I really liked Simon Lappin at left back at the end of last season. While it is always good to see new faces, they must improve on those who are already here.

  • There's another one of the good guys - Canarygirl. I don't mean to sound patronising, but she talks a lot of sense, and her comment about being ethered so often is spot on. How about Ar-chant sending an email to those of us who are clearly trying to talk sense and not abuse people, to tell us exactly what is and what is not acceptable. They know who we are - we have all had to register using our email addresses, and they can therefore contact us. We are unable to contact them, because any communication comes from a "no-reply" address; or each other, because contact details are not published. It would be useful, too, to let us know why they allow through so much trash from obvious mischief-makers.

Of course they'll have to pick up the response speed as I know Swiss and myself recently got emails regarding articles that we posted on back in May I think. I too got ethered today trying to respond to Swiss and Brewer re FIFA. I suspect that Archant didn't like my comments about the Swiss courts fining (??) FIFA in exchange for not pursuing charges gainst Teixeira and Havelange.

Btw, my research shows he has only 1 year left on his current contract. A more authoritative analysis from Ar-chant would have more gravitas, of course..... Why doesn`t someone suggest that? ;-)

  • Some great stuff here, guys and girls. I would never write anything rude, demeaning or insulting - maybe a little cynicism at times but much of that emanates from the constant ethering. April 9th next year will be the 50th anniversary of attending my first match at Carrow Road as a very young lad. Season ticket holder for past 25 years. I love and care for this club. Great idea for Ar-chant to advise us what is not acceptable rather than the word 'other' when I have had a previous contact. Over to you, Pete!!

  • Thank you Crab, appreciate your kind words. With us all being so passionate about our club its so good to be able to share comments with each other. There is a facility to report an abusive post; so surely we can all be adult enough to know when to do that!! Personally I think the Archant system just isn't up handling the large numbers of messages coming in.. Maybe they need to upgrade or re-design the whole message board system altogether.

What's the point in trying to comment when half the time it doesn't appear. I waste a lot of time wanting to say something and it never gets posted. Outside of Steer and Rudd, who might get a few games, are we likely to see much of our other top local products, Tom Adeyemi and Korey Smith, this coming season?

  • And @ Billy - I'm afraid it happens all the time! There are a few regular correspondents to these boards who have much to contribute - people like Brewer, Swiss, goldie and others (apologies to those I have not named, but anybody who reads these boards regularly will know who you are!). I like to count myself among them. What they say is often wise, constructive, well-thought out, and well-written. It never contains any sort of abuse, though there is occasionally some bitterness about previous posts being ethered - which is hardly surprising when you consider the time and effort that went into submitting it in the first place! billythebookie, who has recently qualified himself for sporting event shortly to be held in London, is just an ignorant turf accountant who supports Dirty Leeds United, and likes to stir things up on our boards. I'd suggest that you take another nom-de-plume to avoid any further mistaken connection with him. Only don't call yourself Ged ......

Maybe, like me, he is worried about the full-back situation, specially if Tierney does leave and Naughton returns to Spurs. Of course, the resolution of the Whittaker situation would help. At least there has not been a wholesale raid by AV, at least not yet. Looking increasingly unlikely? Most of our guys have quite a lot of contract left or have extended>renewed them. I think the squad is good enough to survive. Not sure about top 10 though, as much as I`d wish for it. I have a feeling Cinnamon Jackson might deliver some goals next season. OTBC.

Talk about mushrooms being kept in the dark. Season ticket holders and other supporters of the Yellows are a punnet of mushrooms me thinks.
