Wayne Rooney faces a race against time to be fit for Manchester United’s Premier League clash against Norwich City on Sunday at Carrow Road.
The England international has been ruled out of the Red Devils’ Europa League tie against Ajax tomorrow with a virus that has prevented him from training so far this week.
Manager Sir Alex Ferguson is keeping his fingers crossed the striker will be fit for Sunday’s trip to Norfolk.
“He’s had a real bad throat,” said the United boss. “He came in this morning for the first time and we’re trying hard to get him ready for Sunday.”

Think I`ve been ethered, candownund. I hope Hoolahoop and Voldermort can glister and stop some of the harsh criticism they`ve been getting lately. I think it`ll take more than a few Deuteromycotina to keep Roo away.

G`day.Hope you`re right, cdu. A lot of fans have been getting on the backs of Hoolahoop and Voldermort of late. Unfairly, I believe. Even well-paid footballers have human frailties. I hope we can get something from the game, but it`s a big ask against Smart Alex`s team who, after all, are pressing for the Prem title yet again. A point would be good. Edge closer to safety. I bet Rooney will be there. Take more than a few wild yeasts to stop him. OTBC.

Yes Brewer, Ajax failed to make the Man U bench shine. I hope our bench will sparkle on Sunday. Expecting Morrison, Vaughan and maybe Hoolihan to appear there and come on late.OTBC!

We have come a long way when Man U rest players and play a weakened team because their next oponents are Norwich! Hope DeLaat doesn't give away all our secrets.

Good point, Pondlife. I didn`t get the impression deLaet was a quick learner, so I think we`re safe there! Be interesting, as ever, to see how Lambo sets up the squad and which "Plan B" he`ll have in place.

They got scoured, canarydownunder but it seemed to be a "reserve" team. I bet Sir Alex will take no chances v NCFC. Expect a full-strength Squad (including Rooney?).

I would suggest that Rooney kept his mouth shut and got on with playing football.

That`s brillo, canarydownunder! It`s so good that pad humour exists in continents both. It`s perplexing that sometimes jokes have got to go all the way to the Antipodes and back (well, nearly) to be recognised. OTBC.

Brewer, you are on form today, mate! Just so long as we can tie a yellow (and green) ribbon around the old oak tree (or similar) come Sunday night! I think we just might - particularly if Ajax can give them a good scouring tonight.

My other team, FC Basel just slapped Bayern Münich 1-0 in the Champs League. Not much sympapathy for the Bayern fans who were disturbing the peace outside my office all afternoon.

Sorry. Thought he may have got hair entangled in his teeth from a different source. As you say, in a muffled way, far too technical for me. Thank you so much for your patience in explaining.

Well I sort of did jh. So pleased you noticed! Thankyou. A sort of song nightingale in naughty places. Or Thrush. Knock 3 times on the ceiling if you want to agree with me! Twice on the pipes if the answer is No. I`m sure Roo made it altogether inevitable that he would get some fun, Gus. There`s not mushroom left for more puns. Wild Yeast, you make my Heart beast..Reg ularly. Trogg on.

Lemsip and others contain banned substances, such as pseudoephedrine - although I hear paracetomol may be okay! Perhaps he picked up something nasty at Everton last week? (obviously, I refer to an infection and not to any of the charming ladies he may have bumped into...)

Does the use of Lemsip [other cold and flu remedies are available] constitue a breach of UEFA's drug abuse policy?
