Academy products Todd Cantwell and Max Aarons have been handed their full Norwich City debuts as head coach Daniel Farke makes 10 changes for tonight’s Carabao Cup first round home tie against Stevenage.

Aarons comes in at left-back – with the out-of-favour James Husband left out totally again – and Borussia Dortmund loanee Felix Passlack starts at right-back on his debut.

Cantwell made a substitute appearance at Chelsea in the FA Cup last year before going out on loan to Fortuna Sittard and Aarons becomes the first player born in the 21st century to play for Norwich.

Christoph Zimmermann, wearing the captain’s armband, and Ben Godfrey are partnered in defence and Louis Thompson makes his first start for almost two years after his Achilles injuries.

The only player to retain his starting place from Saturday’s 4-3 home loss to West Brom at Carrow Road is Moritz Leitner, who joins Cantwell and Marco Stiepermann in the attacking midfield mix with Tom Trybull alongside Thompson in a deeper role.

Goalkeeper Michael McGovern makes his first City appearance in almost a year, since a 4-1 win over Charlton in the second round of the Carabao Cup. He has played five games for Northern Ireland since then and featured regularly as cover for Angus Gunn last season.

Dennis Srbeny also starts up front but Jordan Rhodes provides insurance on the bench, as do Onel Hernandez, Grant Hanley, Teemu Pukki and Kenny McLean.

Two-time winners Norwich have made it to the fourth round of the competition in five of the last six seasons.

Daniel Farke’s team almost knocked Premier League giants Arsenal out in the fourth round last season but conceded late and were beaten 2-1 in extra-time.

The match is the first competitive meeting of the two sides, although the League Two side did hold City to a 2-2 draw during pre-season in 2017.

Stevenage have never made it beyond the second round of the League Cup but won 1-0 at Ipswich in the first round two years ago.

After a mid-table finish last season the Hertfordshire side have started the season with a 2-2 draw at Tranmere and a 3-1 win at Crawley on Saturday, thanks to two late Alex Revell goals.

The visitors make three changes, with Seny Timothy Deng replacing Paul Farman in goal, John Hunt coming into defence and Alex Reid in for the injured Danny Newton in attack.
