Chris Hughton insists no stone will be left unturned in Norwich City’s bid to bolster their squad in the transfer window after confirming his interest in Kansas City striker Kei Kamara.

The Sierra Leone international is just one of a number of US-based players linked to the Canaries following recent multi-million pound bids for Celtic’s Gary Hooper and Swansea’s Danny Graham.

DC United forward Chris Pontius and Columbus Crew’s Eddie Gaven are also reportedly on Hughton’s radar, but the City boss was reluctant to add fresh fuel to the speculation surrounding Norwich’s transfer targets.

“Yes, he (Kamara) is a player we have made enquiries about but as far as anything more than that, all I can tell you is he is one of lots of players we have enquired about,” said Hughton at Colney yesterday.

“Some reach the public domain, you expect it these days, but generally 99pc of what you hear about has no fact. Any progress or not will take place behind–the-scenes.

“All I will say is it’s an enquiry and that is the process which goes on week in, week out.

“You are spending an awful lot of time speaking to people in the game and watching DVDs, when really most of your efforts and concentration wants to be on the games.

“It is tough to get that balance. You have to cope with it and it is exactly the same for me as every other manager. You just have to work around it the best way you can.”

Kamara had a trial with Norwich’s Premier League rivals Stoke in December but was not offered a deal at the Britannia.

The 28-year-old has played for a number of MLS clubs and joined Kansas in 2009 from Houston Dynamo.

Hughton, however, refused to be drawn on a reported interest in QPR’s Scottish international Jamie Mackie.

The City boss was also tight-lipped regarding progress on potential deals for Hooper and Graham.

“They are names that got into the public domain and sometimes it is difficult to stop that. We are where we are on the (Hooper) one,” he said. “We are speaking about a player that is not our player. People now know what the facts are. Yes, there was a bid put in. The rest we will have to wait and see. Regarding anything that does get out we can’t control that. What I can control is what I tell you now. Anything we try to do is done in the best way and very much club-to-club. With him (Graham), it is similar to what I have just said, we try to do as much as possible in the appropriate way and that is another one that has reached the public domain.”

Hughton remains optimistic the Canaries can make further additions in the final week of trading following the arrival of keeper Lee Camp on a free transfer from Nottingham Forest.

“You want to be optimistic. It is, as most managers would tell you, a frustrating period,” he said. “I heard Sam Allarydce the other night and he was saying the same thing. At this moment there is probably nowhere near the business everyone would expect to have been done going into that last week. What you can’t do is let it affect what you are trying to do as a club or let it take over all your business.

“Before that deadline finishes we have two really important games. An FA Cup tie against Luton and then another important game in the league against Tottenham. If we bring no-one in, we have a very good squad here who have fared reasonably well this season. It is all about getting enough points to be where we want to be. We don’t lose sight of what is important, but it is difficult.”

  • Fail to prepare-prepare to fail. It has been obvious to the majority, who post on this site, that City needed a fresh face in the goalscoring department. It has been so for the first half of the season.Would have thought we could have expected a signing early in the window with all the legwork having been done last year. Now as we approach the last days of the window we see a torrent of strikers linked with NCFC, does this smack of a smidgeon of desparation,

  • Wonder what DVD's he'll be watching..? Lost Boys? Village of the Damned ? Les Miserables? Any will be appropriate if we don't sign 2 decent strikers soon. Shouldn't all this spadework to unearth poss transfer targets, have been done 2 mths ago..?

  • I've been to many DC United games and have seen Kamera playing for Kansas. He's not bad at all but it's hard to gauge how he would fair against premier defenders, I don't think Chris Pontius is worth pursuing at all. And shouldn't Dead Steroids find a nice stone to crawl under himself?

  • Perhaps Hughton should try Leeds again - they may still have a few stones there he has n't looked under yet.
