Paul Lambert felt Norwich gifted Fulham both goals in today’s 2-1 Premier League defeat at Craven Cottage.

City were two down inside the opening 15 minutes after Clint Dempsey and Damien Duff capitalised on some lax defending in the visiting ranks. Aaron Wilbraham’s first Premier League goal of his career set up a grandstand finish, but City were unable to avoid a third successive away league defeat.

“I was delighted with how we responded to the two goals but you can’t give teams a head start in this league,” said Lambert. “When it goes 2-0 so early away from home you fear the worst but we showed a lot of character to come back strong and I felt in the end we could have got something from the game. Ryan Bennett was brilliant for his first start at this level. He certainly didn’t look out of place and I was really pleased for Aaron. He is a top lad away from the pitch and he has not always had a chance but he went on and did what I expected him to do which is make an impact.”

Dempsey was a constant menace in the early thursts for the Cottagers - slamming home barely 109 seconds into the action after John Ruddy could only parry Bryan Ruiz’s initial strike before Duff pounced to tuck away Dempsey’s throughball.

“I said beforehand they have some top, top players,” said Lambert. “If you are saying John may have been at fault for the first one, I wouldn’t blame him. He made an excellent stop in the second half to keep us in the game.”

Lambert confirmed afterwards left back Marc Tierney trained with the first team squad on Saturday and could feature in next week’s final home Premier Reserved League home fixture against Sunderland.

  • I know we've got to remember how far + how fast we've come in 2 years, but I'm still a bit disappointed by our ending to this season. Points mean prizes + @ this rate we are going to finish fourth from bottom (which we said we'd settle for @ the start of the season, but which now would seem like a bit of a waste).I can't help thinking that a couple of months ago this match would've ended in @ least a draw with our then form. This is disappointing fayre. Our bubble may have lasted just long enough to see us safe + now burst. Morison is clearly no replacement for The Horse. Some thinking also needed over the summer about our porous defence. Otherwise, a good season overall, but could've been an incredible season- OTBC !

  • Howson is a rubbish player and he unbalances the team.

  • Turn the record over 'voice of the Ipswich Fans' We were going to get the lowest ever points score this season according to your drivel! If Morison had not been on the pitch we would have won this game easily. We were the better team despite what MOTD made it look like. Howson had a good game too but thanks for your input 'horseoutside' You clearly didn't go!

  • Does that qualify as horse sense or horse s***? Poor start but good to see Wilb on the score sheet.

  • I also wonder a keeper at his age hasn't learned to catch a ball, also not only Whitbread but one or two others hopefully had a nice day out in London, sight seeing. The governer P.L. deserves better.

  • A record run of games in the Premier League (30) without keeping a clean sheet. A record that must be erased asap. Why do we always start to play when 2 goals down. Why can`t we have a boring 1-0 win? Not safe yet but had it not been for constant silly errors at the back & missing open goals we would be! Ruddy is nowhere near good enough for consideration for England.. I believe there are cracks just starting to appear which must be filled & not papered over. PL & IC on learning curve in Premier league but need to learn fast. Would be happy with 17th but can`t help thinking what if....!

  • I believe City have not won this season without Grant Holt which is not some random coincidence.Food for thought for PL.

  • I really do hope that Paul Lambert and Ian Culverhouse read these comments, because as well as receiving the well deserved accolades over the last 2 seasons, and the first half of this, they must realise that the fans are not totally stupid. They must act to stop this decline, and ensure at least a 45 point finish, if they can, then, recognise they have to address a major problem in lack of strike force, or run the very real risk that they could be football management casualties at the end of next season. In this game, you are only as good as your current results and position.....history counts for nothing!!!

  • Watched the game and have to agree with crazy, 3 at the back away from home is chancing your arm a bit especially with Dempsey and Duff around. Cant understand Morison being on the pitch over Wilbraham and Jackson, never seen such a lazy player. Must be doing something right in training, shame it doesnt materialise when we need it. May need to stop experimenting and stick with a tried and trusted formation. I understand it is important to blood the youngsters, maybe this is the thinking behind the selection now we are safe ?

  • If we are going to keep playing Morison, we may as well field only 10 men. He can't run with the ball, he is lazy and selfish. Quite what the management see in him I don't know. How many more times are we going to be subjected to this waste of space!

  • Lets hope thats the last time we will see us set out with 3 Centre Backs, tried and failed against Wolves and Fulham. The players were clearly uncomfortable with it and so much better with a 442.

  • Sorry PL but what cost us this afternoon was your strategy. Three at the back? Morison up front on his own?........no chance! Come on PL start to learn by your your mistakes, rather than repeat the mistakes of the week previous.

  • Still giving goals away in the first few minutes, how many times is this going to happen before someone realises that its happening too often? How many games start with an uphill struggle after only 15 minutes of play? We all love Ruddy but he still can't catch, he does some brilliant saves but can't catch the ball, please John if you can't catch the ball punch it out not keep leaving it for a tap in. Majority of players were great especially the new lads. I'm sure in the Summer with a couple of good signings we will be even better next season but the boys have done brilliantly this season again. Come on you Yellows, you can do Everton.
