Norwich City have signed goalkeeper Mark Bunn from Blackburn Rovers on a two-year deal, with a year option, for an undisclosed fee.

To send a link to this page to a friend, you must be logged in.

The 27-year-old handed in a transfer request at Ewood Park after growing frustrated at his lack of first-team opportunities behind Paul Robinson.

Norwich City boss Chris Hughton identified the former Tottenham trainee as a deputy to Ruddy as the Canaries plan to loan out youngsters Declan Rudd and Jed Steer.

Bunn previously worked with goalkeeping coach Dave Watson, assistant manager Colin Calderwood and first team coach Paul Trollope during their time together at Northampton Town.

Hughton told the club’s official website: “I’m delighted to have signed Mark, he is a keeper that will give us valuable experience and competition at first team level.

“We are fortunate to have two very good young goalkeepers and it will hopefully give us an opportunity to give them experience on loan.

“He will have familiar faces here having worked with Dave Watson at club level and played with a couple of the lads in Bradley Johnson and Steve Morison at Northampton.”

Bunn said: “I’m delighted to be here to start a new challenge and I’m looking forward to it.

“I’m looking forward to seeing some familiar faces and getting to know the other lads. It’s a good time for Norwich – it will be a tough season and I think we’ll do well.

On joining up again with his former coach Watson he added: “He’s a great coach and guy and I’ve known him for a while, it’s probably a big factor why I came here, and working with the likes of Dave and John Ruddy too can only improve me as a ‘keeper and I look forward to working with them both. I’ve come here as I want to challenge and I want to play and hopefully whoever is playing well will be in goal for Norwich.”

  • I'm as baffled as everyone else, Why have we got this GK? Rudd and Steer have done nothing but impress us Canary faithful, even when a young GK in Rudd got rushed in to replace the suspended Ruddy, he did his job and he's how old? Pretty useless signing, this guy has hardly played for Blackburn and he's handed in a request there due to lack of games? If this guy starts to take over Ruddy, I will not be happy. Berbatov's deal has broken through? hint hint,

Does he see himself as the perennial bridesmaid - and happily so? Surely he has some personal ambition, he's not old. Sorry, to me it does not make TOTAL sense. • Ruddy in the England squad a as #2, Rudd in U-21 squad and Steer a rising star - the logic of another keeper defies me and hopefully time will tell! We can hit the woodwork and side netting and get one goal in two games, in-form striker out none in again logic defies me. I am willing to be enlightened but it seems it is not rocket science, yes defence can make you not lose the game but strikers win games or has the humidity of my present locality caused a logic shutdown? Seems like it will be another interesting evening in front of the TV seeing how we do Saturday. Catchy I am hopefully not being negative and I do support albeit from a distance ( I am still season ticket holder and get about 3 games a season) but I do sit here in my Canary shirt and support the lads though thick and thin, which does raise a wry smile from some of my fellow watchers who are mainly of the red camp be it Liverpool or Man U. Unless we have a more comfy subs` bench? Or Ian Rice is right and Bunn displaces Ruddy to do the bench-warming duties? That`d be interesting; from England cap to No. 2 @ Naaarch. I thought any late transfer activity would have been to give us a real striking option, not strengthen our already strong goalie resources. Vaughan loaned out, too. As long as John Ruddy is at Norwich and not injured ,all Currant will do is SIT ON THE BENCH. The only games he will start are cup games and that's one kick in the teeth for our two young keepers, especially Declan. So i for one dont buy the arguement that he wanted to leave BR to not be on the bench. As for the keepers, surely the best way of keeping our 2 highly rated young understudies happy is by allowing them to gain some first team experience for a year and explaining to them that they will step up once JR leaves? Allowing them to languish forever on the bench serves no one. And those who bemoan the fee for MB, firstly we don't know the actual figure and secondly we aren't little Norwich anymore, I am sure we have plenty of funds left if we need them for more reinforcements, let alone allowing for the fact that a few fringe players will likely leave soon too.
