Norwich City transfer rumours 2017: Sam Winnall a suggested target as Barnsley consider selling their out-of-contract striker with Championship promotion rivals Sheffield Wednesday also linked

Striker Sam Winnall has been linked with a January switch to Norwich City, as Barnsley consider their options over the club’s leading goalscorer.

The 25-year-old forward is out of contract this summer, having scored 11 goals in 22 Championship appearances so far this season.

BBC Radio Sheffield’s Jonathan Buchan tweeted this afternoon that Winnall could move for as little as £500,000, with Norwich and their promotion rivals Sheffield Wednesday the potential suitors.

With Kyle Lafferty potentially out of contract at Carrow Road this summer, City will be in the market for more frontline options over the coming windows.

The news followed speculation heavily linking Martin Olsson with a £5m switch to Premier League strugglers Swansea.

And with City boss Alex Neil having already admitted the Canaries need to sell players before he can buy, national football journalist Graeme Bailey has earmarked John Ruddy, Steven Naismith and Sebastien Bassong as players Norwich would like to offload.

Both Naismith and Ruddy came relatively close to joining top-flight Sunderland on deadline day in the summer.

  • According to wiki he's only 5ft8 but he has scored a lot of headers recently which is something we're in dire need of (assuming we cross the ball that is) considering how many the likes of Jerome have missed. We need someone who can score with their blinkin head (without blinking)...!

  • Muddy that is Conor Hourihane, probably either too good for us or too sensible to come to a club with such poor management. On another subject, in the picture above why has the ref juts tripped Mulumbu?

  • Should the club be renamed the East Anglian Football Personnel Agency? Pit it is usually the better players who are loaned out or we could call ourselves Norwich City Tool Hire. Is there anyone out there wants to borrow a manager? Oops, careful of the Trade Descriptions legislation.

  • When you give up the pursuit of excellence and success, you accept mediocrity and failure. But when you can't be bothered with the effort of pursuing excellence and success, you welcome mediocrity and failure. The club needs younger and more dynamic owners. Sorry young Tom but with the best will in the world, the dynamic part rules you out.

  • @Muddy, 5'11'' according to Wiki. The no 8 looks better only because he has made a massive leap to get six inches off the ground.
