Sergi Canos has been kept in the shade by Jacob Murphy’s form for Norwich City

Sergi Canos has been a victim of Jacob Murphy’s stellar impact at Norwich City this season.

Canos is being strongly linked with a January transfer window exit and has this week ‘liked’ posts on Twitter which said Leeds United are interested in taking him to Elland Road.

The 19-year-old has made just one league start for the Canaries since his summer move from Liverpool, however, and was left out of the match day squad for the FA Cup third round tie against Southampton.

Brentford are also interested in the Spaniard, who spent last season on loan at Griffin Park. City boss Alex Neil would not be drawn on whether the Bees are keen to offer Canos an escape route but Murphy’s impressive displays have pushed him down the pecking order. The 21-year-old academy product signed a new longer term deal before Christmas.

“It is nothing against Sergi, he is a good lad who trains well,” said Neil.

“Why has he not been involved? Jacob Murphy is what it is down to. You have one position wide on the right and I think he has been a stand out for us and his emergence has been excellent.

“He has six or seven goals and could have had more with the chances he has had, he averages about three or four shots per game, his pace is electric and, unfortunately for Sergi, Jacob has shown up really well.

“His brother is just as capable and if I am being honest at the start of the season we didn’t know if we could depend on them or not.

“We had two great prospects so we signed Sergi to complement that. I was hoping between the three of them could fulfil that void left by Nathan (Redmond) and Jacob stepped up to the plate.

“People might say Steven Whittaker has not played much but that is down to Ivo Pinto, Nelson Oliveira now instead of Cameron Jerome.

“I had a chat with Sergi before the cup game and he understands the situation. He just wasn’t involved. Matt Jarvis was back in and we had Josh and Jacob in the squad.”

  • It could be said that favourite players are rested from time to time but Neil appears to be working towards playing the 2 times relegation XI every week.

  • I think Wee Alex shows a lot of UNfavouritism. Vindictive. Stubborn. Negative. Alexit time is nigh. Plus the useless Board of course.

  • Harman....Russell Martin was Club Captain long before AN arrived...and has spent more time on the bench than playing this season. It is questionable where Brady's best position is...most clubs interested in him seem to see him as a LB. Dorrans was not a regular at the start of the season. Yes...Jerome was a regular starter early season (and got off to a good start) he now seems to be the 2nd striker. Tettey...I feel you have a point. In my view...not an awful lot of favourtism on show.

  • Favourites. Rusell Martin. Played out of position and made captain to get in team. Brady. Played out of position and every week despite being poor all season. Dorrans. Plays straight away after injury to pass sideways and shoot at upper tiers despite others waiting weeks before returning. Tettey. Having a terrible season unless you count collecting yellows. Jer6me. Finally dropped after Neil realises he cannot score. Half an outfield team. Is that enough favourites ?

  • Homer; it is indeed a ruse to dodge the Moderators. But, more significantly, it is a poor young chap who cannot relate normally with real people in the real world. Hence the series of false identities and identity deceptions. Like you, I find this Canos episode almost beyond belief. Kept in the shade by Jacob?? I think not, he has had barely a chance to stake his claim. Made a teenage scapegoat after the away thrashing at Birmingham, when the "Manager's" own selection errors were gross. Likewise, Klose has been singled out, most recently for being naive enough to pick up an injury. Do you recall Tony Andreu being trumpeted as our own "Cesc Fabregas" when he joined? At least Archant has ceased being NCFC's PR Machine for a while.

  • Sounds like great business. Sell Canos then when Jacob goes we have no cover except Jarvis and he doesn't count. Good old NCFC!

  • @Mad Brewer, thanks for the nod, will try to keep up with the morphing in future although I fail to see the point of these identity thefts unless it is to avoid a ban. This Canos business beggars belief. The youngster was purchased with full fanfare (building for the future etc) a few months back, left to rot and is now it would seem, to be sold to the first bidder on the block. I read that we cannot afford to strengthen the squad without sales. Should that read "cannot" or "will not" I wonder? Perhaps I misjudge the Board and this is merely a coded message saying "we dare not let this muppet loose with even the petty cash".

  • @Homer; beware the Yarco_Yella thing - the real YarcoYella is back. The imposter poster has moved on to a variant of Oh Huckerbee. D'oh... If PaulWho doesn't like JimBob's stuff, I suggest he just doesn't read it. Easy peasy. Btw, john smith's comment had much truth in it. What happened to the new, faux Oh Huckerbee's comments? Have they been censored? Was it The Troll??

  • @madbrewer,certainly not stalking him. I just get very bored with unoriginal and repetitive postings. "It's cold in Norwich today, sack Alex Neil, it's a sign of his poor man management" sorry if that appears to be stalking. @johnsmith, you don't like people disagreeing with you, do you? Hey, I've disagreed, that's probably Alex Neil's fault too.

  • Paulwho is a troll hos only contribution to these posts is to contradict what other posters have to say, one has to question whether he actually knows anything about football at all as most of his posts have no bearing on the game at all.

  • Concept of rotation and tinkering too much. Its both. Neil did tinker too much as getting more desperate to win when the answer was to make a couple of changes that involved leaving out his favourites instead of dropping players he has fallen out with. Rotation. That should be resting players for a midweek game. Neils rotation is dropping players for 6 games or so and then when still not winning bringing them back again. It was not rotation but desperation.

  • This is no excuse. Murphy has had major dips in form and canos should have been brought in at those times. Neil has no concept of form, rotation or most of all...how it keeps players happy and appreciating their role with something more to aim for. We have a squad that is not used correctly and I'd rather sell Neil to Brentford.
