Norwich City have signed Leeds United striker Luciano Becchio in exchange for Steve Morison and a reported sum of £200,000.

To send a link to this page to a friend, you must be logged in.

Becchio has agreed a three-and-a-half year deal, joining former Leeds team mates Jonny Howson, Robert Snodgrass and Bradley Johnson at Carrow Road.

Becchio said: “I spoke to Robert Snodgrass and Jonny Howson about Norwich and they both had really good things to say about the club and the city.

“I cannot wait to play my first game for Norwich. I am really happy about having the chance to play in the Premier League, it is brilliant for me personally and for my career.”

“The Premier League has some brilliant players including people like Aguero and Tevez and it will be a great experience for me to play against players of that quality.”

Part of the deal sees Norwich City striker Steve Morison joining Leeds on a three-and-a-half year contract.

Leeds United manager Neil Warnock said: “I’m absolutely delighted that we’ve been able to bring Steve in.

“Even before Luciano put in his transfer request we had enquired about Steve - he was at the top of my list in January to bring in - and I can’t tell you how delighted I am.

“Steve meets all the requirements of the striker we’ve been looking to bring in. For me, he is a player who has everything. He can score goals from anywhere - whether it’s 25 yards or a tap-in - he has pace, and he has all the attributes you want.”

  • Apologies, leedsman100. It would appear there may have been contradictory reports. Certainly, Leeds getting cashback is more logical - except Morison HAS had a bit of Premier League experience, which Luciano has yet to get. I hope and believe Morison will be rejuvenated with a new club.

And don't even bother asking for me to apologise because it isn't going to happen. When you come onto a site and start calling people stupid it’s clearly you who is the stupid one! Snoddy has looked good in patches, Johnson is solid defensively but limited when passing. My point being all of these guys were together at Leeds and they still struggled. We only took Johnson cos he was on a free.

I know Bunn had a good one last night but does not command the area as well as Ruddy. As someone had said in another board Morison does well when he feels he is king-pin, last season he did well when we didn't seem to play Holt as first choice. Would still like to see another defender come-in. OTBC

  • Apologies accepted from those of you who thought the cash was coming the other way. With regards to the posts from some of you questioning Warnock's comments regarding Morison's pace I can only think he was comparing it to Becchio's (lack of) pace. There are unsubstantiated reports that in training this week he actually broke into a light jog. This is one of those deals that only time will tell who has got the better deal but on the face of it both clubs and both sets of supporters seem pleased. My view is that I think we've got the better deal because we know Morison is good at Championship level, whereas Becchio is untried in the Prem and the view from most Leeds fans is that he won't be able to cut it at that level, but like I said only time will tell. One or two of you have also rightly questioned why you have signed so many of our players, and to be honest we've been asking the same question. Why would anyone want to sign half of a team that struggled to get out of L1 and were at best a decent mid table side in the Championship, as all the players you've signed from us played together in the same struggling side?

I was at the game but did not realise at the time just how good Grant Holt's header back to Anthony Pilkington was, which led to Hoolihan's goal. The ball, from Snodgrass's right foot (yes, correct) cross was rather overhit, swirling past the far post and going out for a goal kick. Grant managed to cushion a header right to Pilkington's feet. Pure class. Hopefully now with some new strikers, we will see Grant 'in the box' more and with a system that not entails him being on the wing for many of the attacks.

I posted on another board that these signings are more of a stop gap before getting someone else in the summer. I like Holt, but he doesn't have the pace to play the system Hughton wants and score goals. On another note, does anyone know how much QPR have spent this window? I seem to remember that Redknapp reckoned they were skint and weren't going to do what the club had done previously as there were players on silly money. Now I see they have bought Samba for a club record fee and will pay him £100000 a week! I so hope this backfires and they go down.

I thought Brum WANTED to offload players... I think the Leeds move might do Morison good too. I often wonder why he seemed to become so disheartened part-way thro` last season. Any ideas? Curtis Davies would be great alongside Bassong. Sadly, Ryan Bennett seems to have gone backwards in his progress (!) and the team is badly weakened when Bass is not there. We were only undone by a fantastic goal from a player who will likely end up at one of the 'Big 2' in Spain for around £40m and probably the only player in the PL that could score such a goal. Indeed, Bale had been virtually a 'no show' up to his goal, which said a lot about the way our midfield had performed - plus the effects of a crunching Garrido tackle. If we can take this form forward to QPR on Saturday and catch them while they bed in all their new players, we should be in good shape.

A championship footballer at best, I thought Norwich would've learnt from the Howson signing that cherry-picking Leeds' best players is not the way forward. Leeds are in the championship because their footballers are not Premiership class...then we go and sign half of them...the mind boggles. Becchio adds nothing to what we have so we'll only have to sell him on at a loss (like Morrison) in the summer or shortly after. We'll just be paying higher wages unitl that time. You want stay in the Premiership Norwich start making signings that reflect this. To improve on what we have it needed to Hooper + RVW, we probably don't have the cash for that so seems even stranger we waste the pennies we do have on mediocrity.
