What an exhilarating season it’s been from way back in August starting at Wigan to last weekend at Arsenal and arguably the greatest away performances of our side for many a year.
This season has surpassed even the most optimistic fan’s dreams and highlights are aplenty. Great performances on our travels versus all the top sides, Stamford Bridge, Old Trafford, Anfield, White Hart Lane, Emirates. Our only real thrashing coming at the Etihad to champions elect Manchester City which has happened to numerous sides, so no disgrace there. Twin that with crucial wins at Bolton, QPR, Swansea, West Brom - supposed relegation rivals which has surely gone a long way to our survival.
At home I believe we have been consistently strong picking up points on a regular basis which has given us a solid base and is crucial to all good sides, results delivered once again against the teams who were touted to finish in and around us plus never wilting against some of Europe’s club teams.
On to the playing team and what a TEAM it is. From back to front we have players that are truly united in the cause, everyone who has pulled on the shirt this season has contributed to where we are today. John Ruddy has been outstanding and is fully deserving of the plaudits and well worthy of a call up to the international set up. What Grant Holt has done in three years at the club is what dreams are made of and certainly the best value for money footballer within the whole top flight. The list can go on and on, Naughton is the best full back we have had at the club since Mark Bowen and a certain Ian Culverhouse, numerous good performances at centre back by various incumbents, Drury looks like he’s lost ten years, a midfield full of options to encompass different playing styles with Fox/Surman/Pilkington/Bennett/Johnson/Wes and latterly Howson, up front obviously Holty being supported by Morison with ten goals in his first season at the top level also deserving of a shout backed up by Simeon and Wilbrahamovic.
On a personal note I would like to add that following Norwich City over the past three seasons has been incredible and possibly my proudest time as a fan, from where we were in August 2009 to where we sit now is nothing short of a miracle. The unity from the boardroom through to the management that filters through to the playing staff and on to the terraces has united this club and has made it a force to be reckoned with and long may that continue.
Congratulations have to go to Delia and Michael who had the foresight to bring in David McNally and Alan Bowkett who have helped transform this club and banished the myth of little old Norwich. Paul Lambert well what can I say as so much has been written. So one word, God!
