Tight race for league title

Sterry Cup pacemakers North Walsham had to settle for a point at Norfolk Senior Cup finalists Mattishall while teams chasing them had mixed fortunes.

At Mattishall, two strikers notched a brace apiece in a 2-2 draw, Simon Wooden for for the home side and Lee Clarke for the Angels, who lead Brandon by 11 points having played two games fewer.

At Mattishall, two strikers notched a brace apiece in a 2-2 draw, Simon Wooden for for the home side and Lee Clarke for the Angels, who lead Brandon by 11 points having played two games fewer. Brandon, with goals from Roy Bland (2) and John Waites, won 3-2 at home to a Blofield outfit now sixth, 15 points adrift of North Walsham but with four games in hand. On target for Blofield were Danny McKail and Neil Hurren.

Beccles Town saw their hopes dampened at defending champions Sheringham , who are climbing the table after a poor start following the loss of several players close season. The Shannocks won 4-1 (Kristian Gleave, Jamie Clarkson, Thomas Graver, Steven Jordan) to make their mid-table position more comfortable, but Beccles, with Jason Clarke their scorer, stay third now 13 points off North Walsham having played three games fewer.

Hempnall, fourth, won 2-1 at Spixworth thanks to Paul Franklin and an own goal, Spixworth's scorer was Damian Didwell. Cromer,with five games in hand over the leaders and 16 points adrift, won 4-1 at Dersingham, Darren Terrington hitting a brace, Simon Durrant and Paul Bradshaw also finding the net while Thomas Nichol replied for the Rovers.

Acle won 2-1 at bottom club Sprowston Athletic, Warren Nichols and Daniel Foreman on target with Daniel Whitman replying. Loddon drew 1-1 at home to Watton with a goal from Philip Squire, Kevin Bloomfield finding the net for second-bottom Watton.

In Division One, Norwich St Johns had their lead cut. They were held to a goalless draw at Stalham while Long Stratton now also have 46 points from 21 games after winning 3-2 at Wymondham. James Barnes, Ben Cussons and Paul Folkard were their marksmen, Wymondham replying through James McCloy and an own goal.

Fourth-placed Corton won 2-1 at home to Wells, Stuart Bloomfield and Sam Shepherd their scorers, Craig East getting the Seasiders' goal.

Hindringham (Scott Gray, Scott Saunders) won 2-1 at Bungay (Neil Renaut); Caister (Lee Bennett, Nicky Crawley) won 2-0 at home to Holt; while Reepham won 4-1 at Horsford and Poringland won 5-1 at home to strugglers Sole Bay. For Reepham, Kevin White (2), Joe McDonald and Kevin Winkworth hit the net, Stuart Clark replying for Horsford. Poringland's nap hand came from Joshua Farrow (2), Alistair Shearer, Vaughan Stevenson and Scott Casey, with Sole Bay's goal coming from Russell Palmer.
