t EASTON 3, SOUTH WALSHAM 0
EASTON began their 08/09 season by playing hosts to South Walsham. With key players Stuart Halton, Neil Moggan and Steve Shaw all away, manager Eddie Jack started along with new signing James Moore.
Easton got off to a great start when Simon Rix thumped home a penalty and further chances went begging throughout the half. However, Easton didn't have it all their own way as Walsham looked a decent outfit going forward but their final ball was missing.
The second half started badly for Easton when keeper Chris Brownbridge conceded a penalty but made amends minutes later when he saved it. He then produced a superb save shortly after to keep Easton in front.
Walsham then had a man sent off as Easton began to look more dangerous going forward when Tim Wickham joined Lee Newton up-front. Following Tom Payne's flick on, Newton scored a second and added Easton's third in the closing minutes. Further chances were squandered but Easton will be delighted to get the season off to a winning start. Plenty of candidates for Man of the Match with Lee Newton taking the honours for a superb forward display.
t BRANDON TOWN RES 3, MATTISHALL RES 2
Brandon Town Reserves played host to Mattishall Reserves for their season opener and ran out 3-2 winners. They took the lead through a Craig Winstone header after 19 minutes but seemed to switch off. The visitors eventually made them pay just before half-time when the defence failed to clear their lines.
Town took the lead again after 70 minutes when Waites headed home. Minutes later the lively Poile saw his shot well saved. Mattishall hit the post and the ball was scrambled away. Wright then added a third for Town only for Mattishall to pull one back with minutes to go. Some cool heads wound the clock down to give new manager Kevin Allsop a win in his first competitive game and it was encouraging to see the Reserves perform so well after the mass exodus to foreign parts by many of last year's squad.
