The United boss has added three players to his squad - making it nine new faces in a little over two months - and believes the mix of youth and experience will see the city side through.

In come 23-year-old striker Nathan Thompson from Yarmouth, 18-year-old midfielder John Bell - a former Norwich City youth player - and experienced keeper John Higgs, who left Southern League Premier Division outfit King's Lynn earlier this month.

Thompson has had an immediate impact, scoring in two friendlies in the past week - a 4-0 win over Acle last Saturday and a 3-1 win over North Walsham on Tuesday.

The trio travel to Essex with Chick insisting United, second from bottom of the Premier Division table, can turn it around before the end of the season.

“We have an extremely young side and we have made a lot of changes in recent weeks,” he said. “It has been difficult with the changes but I am confident we can it forward and go and attack these remaining fixtures and stay in the Premier League.

“Nathan Thompson has proved his worthy already this week, John Bell is a talented young player who I am very happy with, and John Higgs has vital experience - I'd like to thank Keith Webb for his help in allowing us to secure his services.

“He will add vital experience to the side.”
