RIDGEONS LEAGUE: After a disappointing opening week, the Planters earned an FA Cup replay with a 1-1 draw at Wisbech Town only to crash out at Plantation Park on Tuesday night.
After a disappointing opening week, the Planters earned an FA Cup replay with a 1-1 draw at Wisbech Town only to crash out at Plantation Park on Tuesday night.
There were three changes to the side which drew with Walsham-le-Willows, Craig Roberts, Craig Vincent and Nathan Page replacing the unavailable Seb Muddel and Paul Atkins and Tom Jeal who both dropped to the bench.
Shaun Bammant hit wide and Lee Howlett forced a save from Horton before Cubberley put the Fenmen ahead seven minutes before the break with a low shot past Matt Hill.
Ben Garnham had a shot wide but the Planters went in to the break one down.
The Planters started the stronger after the interval and Vincent shot wide but after 56 minutes they got a deserved equaliser after good combination between Howlett and Bammant, Howlett slotting home under Horton.
Wisbech finished the stronger and seven minutes before the end Warren Preston became the third Planter to be dismissed in the opening three games when he brought down Impey who was adjudged to be the last man.
Hill saved from Cubberley in the dying minutes to earn a deserved replay.
Manager Gary Butcher named an unchanged line up for Tuesday's replay and the Planters were first to show with Vincent and Howlett both shooting wide.
Reeve and Thurlbourne both showed the Fenmen weren't going to lie down and the visitors took the lead on 30 minutes when a driven free kick rebounded off keeper Hill and Reeve was on hand to hit home from close range.
Seven minutes later and the Planters were left with a mountain to climb when a defensive mix up saw Reeves harmless ball into the middle bounce over Hill and into the far corner.
Bammant almost reduced the arrears immediately but his shot cannoned back off the post and Horton saved at the feet of Howlett.
Atkins was introduced at the break and within five minutes he had a hand in reducing the arrears, Duane Eastall found space on the left and crossed to the near post, Atkins touched it on and Craig Roberts was on hand to bundle it over from close range.
It was end to end stuff now as the Planters went in search of an equaliser but Hill had to save well from Impey while Garnham hit over from outside the box.
On the hour Wisbech increased their lead when Setchell headed home from a corner.
Preston, Bammant, Page and Adam Ferguson all had chances but the Planters bowed out of this years competition.
