RIDGEONS CUP: Wroxham went through to the next round of the League Cup 5-2 after extra time against Woodbridge Town.

The home side scored early after just three minutes when Paul Cook shot from close in to convert a cross from Alain Bruel.

Cook should have doubled the score a few minutes later but missed an open goal after rounding the keeper only to shoot wide.

Although Woodbridge are near the bottom of the table and Wroxham had beaten them 4-1 in early September they showed why they had managed to hold leaders CRC last Saturday as they became more competitive in open play.

After 15 minutes they were awarded a penalty by referee Marin which was clearly outside the box and Graham Challen was booked for his protest. Howie was sent the wrong way and the score was level.

The rest of the half became very scrappy with lots of stoppages and free-kicks with Steve Jordan perhaps lucky to stay on. But Scott Howie did not have to make a save to make although his colleagues laboured to put the ball away at the other end.

Woodbridge came out flying for the second half and soon took the lead with a very nice goal. They broke down the right and the cross in found No 9 who slotted in from the edge of the area with a classy finish.

The game then settled into a scrap as Wroxham pressed forward in search of an equaliser. Alain Bruel hit a post with a phenomenal shot that cannoned back and then Durrant came on to hit a cracking shot across goal that smacked against the crossbar.

Paul Cook also hit a post but later he finally put the Yachtsmen level on 75 minutes. Durrant made ground down the left and his cross looped over the keeper for Cook to head in.

The Woodbridge custodian then made a couple of good saves as the game headed for extra time.

At the end of normal time it was two apiece.

Wroxham killed the tie off in the first period of extra-time with three more goals. Cook got his hat-trick with another header early in the half.

This was followed by a looping banana cross from Danny Self which deceived everyone, allowing Damian Hilton to score.

Hilton also scored the last goal following a mix-up in the Woodbridge defence and the Wroxham striker was left in the clear to fire home.

There was no further score as Wroxham progressed to the next round.
