For the second time this season UCL team Long Buckby have knocked the Planters out of an FA competition.

Today's FA Vase second qualifying round tie saw the sides still locked together after 90 minutes, but it was a goal in each half of extra time that saw the Planters' Wembley dreams ended.

An entertaining cup-tie between two evenly matched sides saw Long Buckby take an early lead when Daniel Chilton rose unmarked at the far post to head home in the 11th minute, this after Lee Hunter shot had come back off the bar and Ricci Butler's free kick had been tipped over by Ollie Urquhart.

The Planters almost hit back five minutes later when Tom Young's shot was pushed out by Urquhart with Hunter unable to get a shot on target from the rebound.

Dan Quigley headed over from a corner as Long Buckby had the better of the middle section of the half but the Planters came back into the game and Gavin Forst's shot was held comfortably by Urquhart.

The Planters equalised on the stroke of half time when a lovely move down the left ended with Youngs playing in Hunter who curled a 20-yard shot inside the far post.

The second half saw the game swing from end to end with both sides looking for the winning goal. Youngs was to be denied three times by Urquhart, including one point-blank save after a good cross from Butler.

Hunter's cross to the far post just eluded Andrew Claydon and Butler, Hunter and Chris Squires all went close while at the other end substitute Vijah Sidhu's cross shot hit the outside of a post, Darren Coe had to make an important defensive header and Ben Nower had to make saves to deny Glenn Walker and substitute Jonathan Crockett.

As the game entered the closing stages Walker cut inside and his shot came back off Nower's crossbar and in the final minute Squires shot shaved the Long Buckby post.

Buckby's Mark Hewitt was lucky to see only yellow in injury time after an incident with Butler.

Long Buckby took the lead in the sixth minute of extra time when Richard Bunting found himself in space on the edge of the Planters area and although Nower got a hand to it he couldn't prevent the ball going in off the inside of the post.

The visitors thought they had extended their lead three minutes later when Courtney Herbert's shot hit the underside of the crossbar and appeared to bounce behind the line but the linesman waved play on.

With Long Buckby effectively reduced to ten men with Hewitt hobbling on through injury the Planters tried to get back into the game but it was the visitors looking the more likely on the break and Nower had to save well to deny Herbert.

Youngs and Frost both went close but it was Long Buckby who scored next to seal the game one minute from the end when Courtney broke down the left and his cross found Walker whose first shot was saved by Nower and Walker somehow bundled the ball home at the second attempt.

New signing Damian Hilton was absent though illness.
