An FA spokesperson confirmed yesterday King's Lynn will be questioned over the missile throwing incidents that marred the club's Southern League, Premier Division play-off semi-final.

The FA has launched an official investigation after two objects were hurled into the Chippenham goalmouth during Lynn's Bank Holiday Monday defeat at The Walks.

Referee Adam Watts handed the items to stewards – believed to be a drinks bottle and packet of chewing gum – during a second-half stoppage for treatment to Bluebirds stopper Steve Perrin.

"The incident was mentioned in the referee's report," said the FA spokesperson. "We have now written to the club regarding this matter and are awaiting their response."

Linnets' chairman Ken Bobbins appealed earlier in the week for help to track down the offenders and reiterated the club would co-operate fully in any investigation.

"Yes we can confirm receipt of a letter from the FA," said spokesman Mark Hearle. "However at this stage we have not been formally charged with any offences. At the current time we are considering our response to the correspondence."

The FA has the power to fine or enforce partial ground closures if they decide the club is guilty of failing to control their supporters.

No action was taken following a coin throwing incident at The Walks during Lynn's FA Trophy tie against Exeter in February 2004.

The club will not be questioned over the spat that erupted outside the changing rooms at full time of a stormy play-off semi-final.

First team manager Tommy Taylor was forced to help separate players from both clubs before stewards and police restored order.
