Wisbech Town striker Tom Gosling has been banned from Ridgeons League football for two years and charged by police with using racially aggravated threatening behaviour for an incident in a league game against Felixstowe and Walton last season.

The 22-year-old denied racially abusing two Felixstowe and Walton players during an away league match on November 24, but received a 42-day ban and £50 for comments he is alleged to have made, when he appeared at a Cambridgeshire Football Association hearing on January 7.

He was also reported to Suffolk police. Gosling has pleaded not guilty to the charge and is due to appear at Ipswich Magistrates' Court next week. The striker also received a 182 day ban and £150 fine at the Cambs FA hearing for a separate incident - relating to an alleged incident when he confronted the referee after being booked and subsequently sent off for a late tackle in Wisbech's 2-1 Boxing Day win over Swaffham.

It was thought that the striker would be available to play for Wisbech again in October, but Ridgeons League officials have banned him from playing until the start of the 2011 season.

Wisbech manager Roy McManus is yet to commit to the Fenmen and is still seeking clarity from the board over whether the club will have a reserve side next season and what budget will be available for bringing in players. A new striker will surely be the top priority for whoever takes charge of the team. Target man Darren Edey, who McManus brought in to replace Gosling in January, has decided to retire at the age of 36.
