The Don Frost Cup marked the start of a new Anglian Combination season between Sterry Champions Wroxham Res and Mummery Cup Winners Hempnall.

Both teams were missing some players for various reasons, with Wroxham fielding a very young side, but they provided an entertaining match for the spectators.

Wroxham started brightly with some neat play and earned an early corner but the 'keeper cleared the danger to a Hempnall striker whose shot across the goal hit the post and was scrambled away.

Wroxham's Hoffman cut inside and had a shot blocked and the ball switched to other end, as Hempnall's Rob Browne shot just past the post.

The Yachtsmen's Taylor weaved down the line but his cross was cleared out for a corner. From the corner, it was headed clear but the resulting shot just cleared the crossbar.

Following good work by Hempnall's Player in midfield, the ball went out wide and was crossed back in. Paul Franklin fired the ball into the bottom corner to open the scoring on 17 minutes, the keeper got a hand to it but could not keep it out.

Taylor had another good run but was forced wide. At other end Browne shot across the goal but it was cleared. Following a hasty challenge, a Wroxham player was booked, the resulting freekick went well wide.

Chasing a long clearance Rob Browne ran though, rounded the keeper and scored the second goal on 37 minutes.

Following a good Wroxham move, the ball was cleared and Shaun Flint turned and chipped the ball over the keeper for the third goal on 42 minutes.

Another Wroxham player was booked just before half-time.

At the start of the second half, Hempnall continued to push forward, with Flint heading against the post and later lobbing the keeper but the ball hit the crossbar. Again Flint ran through but the keeper came out at his feet and cleared, but Franklin shot and hit the post.

The match was played in a good spirit by both teams and was well controlled by Referee Darin Geary and his assistants.

Hempnall were worthy winners, they have a good squad, were stronger physically, winning more challenges, very solid throughout the team and Flint caused lots of problems up front.

Wroxham had some neat passing moves but were unable to create enough scoring chances, although I am sure they will make a strong challenge to hold on to the Sterry Cup.
