King’s Lynn Town chairman Stephen Cleeve has had his say why he decided to sack Simon Clark as manager.

The Linnets are on the lookout for a new boss after a run of just one win in seven games under Clark, who arrived in the summer to take over from former Norwich City defender Ian Culverhouse.

Saturday’s 2-2 draw against Histon, who play two steps below Lynn in the non league pyramid, proved the final straw and Cleeve expects to make a new appointment by September 22 when Lynn hope to be hosting Stafford Rangers in the second qualifying round of the FA Cup if they can overcome Histon in a replay on Tuesday evening.

“I think I’m going to go for a manager that has achieved promotion before,” said Cleeve, who still believes promotion remains a possibility this season despite the club’s poor start. “Culverhouse obviously wasn’t like that but he had been part of a coaching set-up that had achieved promotion before. I think we are a stronger squad than last season - I know that may sound silly to some but I really do. I have to admit that it doesn’t look like that at the moment.

“But we’ve got a very good squad of players and I think there is a lot to work with for whoever I choose to come in.”
