King's Lynn chairman Ken Bobbins urges The Walks faithful to turn out in force for the Southern League champions' homecoming party today.
The entire title winning squad - along with Keith Webb and his backroom staff - will parade the championship shield during half time of the reserves' Ridgeons League finale against Newmarket (3).
Lynn clinched promotion to the conference second tier for the first time in their history at Merthyr last week. The club's youth side have since added the Ridgeons Youth League Cup to their Eastern Division crown in a trophy-laden end to the season.
Club officials confirmed Lynn's young double winning squad will also accompany the first team on a deserved lap of honour.
“The club is really on a high,” said Bobbins. “These are great times to be involved. The reserves are safe in the Ridgeons for another season and the youth team have done phenomenally well to win the double and of course we know what Keith and the first team achieved last week. Overall this has to be the most successful period the whole club has ever enjoyed.
“We are hoping for a decent turn- out. This is for all the people who perhaps couldn't get to Merthyr. The lads and the management will parade the shield at half-time and there is also an opportunity for supporters to get pictures taken with the trophy beforehand in the club shop.”
Bobbins said a planned Town Hall civic reception on Wednesday, May 14 was a fantastic honour.
“It's great that the borough council want to recognise the club's achievement,” he said. “This is not just for the club and the supporters but also the town and wider area. Success for your sporting teams does reflect well on everybody. For me, this is far more acceptable than an open top bus tour. I think something like that would be a little outrageous although we've had a tremendous amount of support and congratulations from all over the county.”
Lynn's chairman will decide his own future after a scheduled board meeting next week. Bobbins revealed in the aftermath of the club's Merthyr title celebrations he was considering standing down after four years at the helm.
“It's still up in the air,” he said. “I shall be making my decision probably after next week's board meeting. We've already sat down with Keith and had two meetings so next week we will look to ratify some of the points already raised.”
The champions have unveiled a pre-season game against a Norwich City XI on Tuesday, July 29 (7.45pm) at The Walks - the Canaries' second visit in the last 12 months.
“For whatever reason the relationship has not been as good as it could've in the past,” said Bobbins. “Both myself and Keith have done a lot of work because we feel it can only benefit the wider area. I think under Glenn Roeder things might change slightly in terms of Norwich playing pre-season games against the local sides so it's great that we've got this nice occasion to look forward to.
“The feelers are already out as far as other pre-season games go. In the last few years things have changed with regard to pre-season - much like football has changed. Teams are more reluctant to travel but we are certainly looking for one, two if not three league clubs to come here.”
t Admission prices for today's game: Adults £5, OAPs £3 and children (aged 15 and under) £1. Season tickets are not valid for reserve games.
t The club has produced a commemorative match day programme for today's Ridgeon Premier game, priced £2 with details on the successful first, reserve and youth team campaigns this season.
t Halesowen face Team Bath at Twerton Park this afternoon in the Southern League, Premier Division play-off final for the right to join Lynn in the conference set-up.
