Division 2A throws up an intriguing clash this week when a resurgent table- toppers Dussindale Rovers (formerly Spixworth Utd) face third-placed DCS Rapid.

DCS, who won 10-0 last week, have made a decent start to life in 2A after gaining promotion, and have been lucky enough to strengthen their squad. Speaking from his training camp at the Norwich Beer Festival, secretary and manager Nick Williamson puts the good start down to a consistent nucleus of players. “We were able to bring in a couple of players which has created competition for places, so players are aware they have to perform well week in and week out which makes life a bit harder for me”.

Williamson points to the form of veteran striker John Davis, who has scored seven times this season as a contributory factor.

“He missed most of last season through injury, so it’s good to have him back. Captain Brett Kingsbury has led by example and Dave Lewis has been in form between the posts.”

Dussindale Rovers have made a great start to the season and remain unbeaten winning six of their seven games so far. The club boast the longest serving league secretary by far in Roy Chapman whose first secretarial post was with Robinsons Garage in 1964. Manager of four seasons, Ian Bird is enjoying this term after some years of struggle. “We have always had good players to call on, but until this season, never all on a consistent basis and this has shown in our results.”

Brothers Simon and Paul Durrant have proved a big hit this season, with Simon scoring nine in six games. Bird pointed out that players such as Martin Addison, Luke Humphrey and Paul Ottolangui have plenty of experience at senior level, a fact that leaves him confident for the season.

“If I’m honest I really do think we can stay top, but the next three or four weeks will make things clearer.”

The game on Sunday is at Recreation Sports Centre, Earlham Rd, kick off 10.30am.
