Lowestoft rewarded their superb support last season by opening the gates to allow everyone in free for their first pre-season fixture on Saturday - and the fans responded in style with more than 600 turning out.

The Trawlerboys paraded three new faces in their starting line-up, with new signings Curtis Haynes-Brown and Lee McGlone joined by trialist Stuart Ainsley.

In the blistering heat Leiston's Stuart Boardley and Danny Bloomfield for Lowestoft both went close before the visitors took a 21st minute lead.

A free-kick played in from the left saw Boardley reach the ball first to loop a header over Andy Reynolds and into the met.

A Danny Block free-kick hit the side netting as Leiston were close to increasing their lead.

The second half saw Lowestoft press for an equaliser with Jamie Stannard going full length to turn a Gary Holt header round the post, following Craig Bussens' cross.

Stannard then saved from Joe Francis and Dale Cockrill had a shot blocked by Leon Ottley-Gooch, before Lowestoft finally equalised in the 75th minute.

Francis did the spadework, reaching the byline before crossing for Bloomfield to get the final touch from close range, the ball going in off a defender.

Stannard excelled, saving a Bussens' shot under the crossbar before producing a stunning save to push a Jamie Godbold effort over the bar.

Lowestoft netted the winning goal five minutes from the end, with Holt picking out Francis who went past a defender before sending a venomous rising drive into the top corner of the net.

t Lowestoft Town: Reynolds, Poppy, Marsden, Holt, Halliday, Haynes-Brown, Godbold, Ainsley, McGlone, Bloomfield, Hunn. Second half subs: Bussens, Francis, Crane, Potter, Dale Cockrill.
