Lowestoft Town boss Ady Gallagher is certain he has enough talent in his squad to ensure the Blues don't get dragged into a relegation scrap this season.

Inconsistency has blighted the Blues campaign so far, demonstrated in the past couple of weeks when an excellent home win against Chorley was followed by defeat in the FA Cup at Bognor Regis.

But Gallagher, inset, believes he has a squad capable of establishing a comfortable buffer between themselves and the relegation zone as he takes his side to Hednesford Town this afternoon.

“Throughout last season we just about managed to keep ourselves clear of danger but it took a very good run for us towards the end to make sure that we weren’t dragged in,” he said. “This season I’m hoping that we are more comfortable in mid-table, looking to push on and seeing where it takes us. I feel we’ve got a squad that’s capable of doing that.

“I want to see progress at the end of the day – what that progress is will have to be judged at the end of the season.”

Lowestoft have no injury worries for their trip to Keys Park with Scott Mitchell returning to the squad after a long-term groin problem.

Erkan Okay returns from suspension whilst Chris Henderson’s ban for his red card at Bognor doesn’t take effect until later this month.

Gallagher believes he now has a squad that is capable of climbing the National League North table, although he did admit that some fringe players could be heading for the exit door.

“I’ve got the squad that I want to work with – there will be changes in the sense that you have to sometimes balance the books and players will leave in time,” added Gallagher.

“Keeping everyone fit will be key for us but I’m confident that the judgment I’ve made on these players will see us flourish over the next few months.”
