Mad Moose 8, Acle Wanderers 2
It was the coldest morning of the season so far, and a very foggy pitch saw an upbeat and confident Mad Moose team take to the pitch against Acle Wanderers.
Mad Moose still confident from a good start to the season were up against an Acle Wanderers side who have been slow starters with just one win from the three games they had played. The whistle blew to start the game and the Mad Moose instantly took control of the game maintaining possession for a majority of the first 20 minutes creating several chances but were unable to take the lead. Acle struggled to get hold of the ball, however when they did they managed to quickly create some half chances but were unable to capitalise on these chances.
It took 20 minutes to break the deadlock, when the Acle Wanderers defender was unable to clear the ball as it bounced towards the line and accidentally put it into his own net to make it 1-0 to the home side. Once the deadlock was broken the Mad Moose were then able to capitalise as Acle Wanderers heads dropped and before half-time scored another four - two from Tom Swabey, one a penalty, one from Bram Goodwin-Wright and one from Chris Goodwin. The Mad Moose now five up as the half-time whistle blew.
The second half was a much closer battle with the Moose struggling to maintain a hold of the game as they had in the first half. The game became scrappy and neither team were really able to dominate.
The Mad Moose did however get the next goal as Bram Goodwin-Wright slotted home from close range to make it 6-0.
The Mad Moose at this point appeared content with the result and the play became very unpredictable and sloppy all over the pitch. It took an under hit pass by the Moose centre back to allow the Acle Wanderers forward his first real chance on goal and he calmly put his shot to the left of the keeper and in the net to make it 6-1.
Acle then also managed to capitalise on the Moose being unable to clear a cross and fired in a shot through an array of Moose players and into the net to give the away side a slight lifeline.
The next 20 minutes saw a lot of sloppy play from both teams, neither looking likely to score. It took until the 85th minute when Bram Goodwin-Wright picked up the ball just into the Acle half with an Acle defender to shake off, he did so then fired a shot from just outside the box and into the bottom corner to make it 7-2 to the Mad Moose and for him to complete his hat-trick.
This wasn’t it however, and it was the Mad Moose eighth goal that caught the attention of the spectators in the 90th minute. Some neat interchanges on the right wing saw Sam Halsey round a player then curl a long range effort into the top far corner with style, this being the goalscorer’s first goal for the club.
The game finished 8-2 with a confident Mad Moose team securing their fifth win of the season against a deflated Acle Wanderers side.
