Gorleston continued their 100 per cent start to their campaign with an impressive 5-1 win over Saffron Walden at Emerald Park in the Thurlow Nunn Premier Division.

The Greens made it three wins out of three in the league and are already showing signs of mounting a title challenge this season after this authoritative victory.

Connor Deeks broke the deadlock in the 36th minute but Gorleston were pegged back shortly after as the visitors equalised.

The match turned in Gorleston’s favour in injury time at the end of the first half when Connor Ingram grabbed his first of the afternoon. The Greens’ hot-shot got his second in the 65th minute to all but wrap up the points but further goals from Jack Garrod and Deeks made it a thoroughly decent afternoon’s work for Ricci Butler’s side.

East coast rivals Great Yarmouth didn’t have such a good weekend as they were soundly beaten 4-1 at Godmanchester – Aaron Sanders getting the Bloaters’ goal from the penalty spot.

Wroxham grabbed their first win of the campaign as they ran out 4-0 winners at Wivenhoe. Harley Black opened the scoring in the first half after good work by Robbie Sweeney and the former Norwich City academy player then had the chance to double the Yachtsmen’s lead from the penalty spot. However, his penalty was saved but it proved to be a short reprieve for the home side, who were reduced to 10 men shortly after when Joe McCracken was given his marching orders for an elbow on Adam Plumstead. Ross Gilfedder’s tidy finish then made it 2-0 and Shaun Taylor bundled the ball home to extend Wroxham’s lead.

Gildfedder completed the rout late on to earn praise from joint boss Tom Parke.

“We made some tactical changes after Southend and we’re glad they came off,” said Parke. “We looked solid and it’s another clean sheet. We are delighted for Ross Gilfedder with his double after he has been playing catch-up having missed pre-season. He looked strong today and their defence couldn’t handle him.”

Thetford cruised to their second win of the season with a 2-0 success at Long Melford. Max Melanson put the Brecklanders in front after latching on to Sam Bond’s cross in the 54th minute and shortly after Ross Bailey made sure of victory.

Kirkley & Pakefield went down to a 4-1 defeat at home to Haverhill Rovers – Kyle Baker getting the goal for the Royals.

On Friday night Fakenham lost 1-0 at home to Walsham-le-Willows.

Norwich CBS also lost in their first game at the FDC in the First Division as they went down to a 2-0 defeat against King’s Lynn Reserves. Sam Buckmaster preserved a point for Diss after they fell behind against Halstead whilst Norwich United Reserves drew 2-2 against Cornard.
