Acle’s joy at League Cup scalp

Thorpe United Ladies 0, Acle United Ladies 3

After last week’s brilliant achievement of getting to a county cup final against Norwich City, Acle found themselves in cup action again this week but this time it was league cup.

Acle travelled to near neighbours Thorpe Utd who play in the Premier division, one higher than the visitors.

With a few injuries and a few unavailable Acle went with 12 players.

From the first whistle we looked sharper than we had all season and put pressure on both the ball and the opposition. Acle came close after only two minutes when from a Thurtle corner Hooper headed straight at the keeper.

After seven minutes Acle took the lead when a cross-field pass found Anderson who beat the full back and squared to Shaibu who tapped into an empty net.

The second came not long afterwards when a deflected shot headed goal bound and bounced over the keeper into the net, skipper Emmerson soon made it three when her header almost beat everyone but the keeper saved well.

The third did come just before the 30 minute mark when Anderson slotted home under the keeper.

Realistically, the game was over at half time but Acle still had to keep their concentration against a team of a higher standard but they defended solidly and kept possession well and never really looked like conceding.

This was probably Acle’s best footballing performance of the season by far.

Next week Acle are back in league action when they host AFC Sudbury at Bridewell Lane, 2pm kick off.
