This was the final match of the season for Aylsham Ladies, played in bright spring weather on Aylsham Rec.

The latter part of the season has been characterised by a lack of player availability and this finale to the season was no exception.

Aylsham fielded just nine players who showed grit and determination throughout the match.

Special mention must go to Di England who, with no goalkeeping experience, volunteered to don the gloves in the absence of the two regular keepers.

Aylsham played in a calm and authoritative manner, taking control of the game in the early stages.

Player/manager Abby Timmins provided the first goal by taking an outstanding corner which swerved into the net.

Always on form, Abby struck the second goal from outside the penalty area.

Aylsham Ladies were buoyed with confidence following these goals but within the first half, Wymondham pulled two goals back to draw the scores level as the first 45 minutes closed.

Abby made no positional changes at half time and Aylsham dug deep - everyone playing with total commitment. Wymondham were first to score in the second half but Aylsham once again responded with a goal from Emma Gillespie who took the ball round the goalie to find the back of the net.

Advantage then went to Aylsham as Gina Atherton made the score 4-3 and then 5-3 by converting a penalty when Michaela England was brought down in the box.

Fresh legs were needed in defence to see the game out so Debbie Kelly took Di England's place in goal (also making her goalkeeping debut).

Aylsham worked very hard in the final ten minutes to protect their goal but couldn't prevent Wymondham scoring another so were pleased to hear the final whistle and end their season with a well deserved, hard-fought win.

Aylsham Ladies: Di England, Flick Farraway (captain), Kylie Timmins, Debbie Kelly, Michaela England, Abby Timmins (Player Manager), Nadia Child, Emma Gillespie, Gina Atherton.

Aylsham's thanks for the season go to Steve Newstead for refereeing the majority of the matches, to linesman Ashley Hunton and kit sponsors Aylsham Computers.

Aylsham will play three tournaments during the closed season, ready to re-group for the start of the 2010/11 season.
