BUNGAY Town Ladies resumed playing on Sunday after nearly a two-month break and gave league leaders Swanton Herons quite a scare before going down fighting 5-3.

The match started with Swanton pushing forward and taking an early lead when a loose ball from a corner was not cleared and a Swanton forward was left with an easy task to score from close range.

But Bungay soon had the chance to level when Jo Oakley went through and as she rounded the keeper she was brought down, resulting in the Swanton keeper being sent off.

From the resulting free kick a penalty was awarded when a player in the Swanton wall blocked with her hand but Leo Dalby put the spot kick over the bar.

Not to be deterred by this Bungay quickly equalised when Emily Leech ran onto a through ball and calmly scored into the far corner.

This spurred Bungay on and Jo Oakley got the reward for her hard work as she score by finishing off a good passing move.

But from poor defensive work by Bungay, Swanton were allowed to equalise when a forward was left unmarked in the centre of the penalty area to score easily.

However, straight from the restart Bungay restored their lead when Emily Leech finished of a cross from Leo Dalby to give Bungay a deserved 3-2 lead at half-time.

In the second half Swanton came out determined to take the game to Bungay and soon brought the scores level when a long free kick deceived the Bungay keeper and ended up in the net.

The game began to be stretched as both teams went for a win, Bungay hit the bar with an Emily Leech header from a corner, but it was Swanton who finished the stronger as twice in the last 10 minutes.

They went through to score first from a brave far post header and then as Bungay pushed forward leaving a Swanton player a clear run on goal.

A disappointing result for Bungay who gave the league leaders a good game.
