Norwich City Ladies Reserves 3, Haverhill Rovers Ladies 0

Norwich City Ladies Reserves hosted Haverhill Rovers last week and bagged three points with a very convincing performance which ended in a 3-0 win.

Norwich started the game in extremely positive fashion and were soon putting together some promising passing moves, with Sian Wager’s pace up the left wing creating many problems for Haverhill.

Gemma Farmen was unlucky not to score when her shot bounced off the top of the crossbar, but Norwich then took the lead shortly afterwards.

A flowing move up the right ended with Nic Sheldrake being put in behind the Haverhill defence and she slotted the ball home past the advancing keeper.

Sheldrake added a second a few minutes later, lobbing the advancing keeper superbly, having been put clear by Sian Wager’s flighted pass.

In response, Haverhill tried to use their speedy winger as an outlet for attack, but Fran Self dealt with the threat without any drama. The second half went much the same way as the first, with the majority of the game being played in the Haverhill half of the pitch. Fifteen minutes in, Flip Carman took the score to 3-0 by calmly stroking the ball past the Haverhill keeper, having been sent clear with a wonderfully weighted pass from Sheldrake.

Norwich continued to apply pressure and Mel Kersey hit the post with a superb half-volley from a corner. Amy Edwards also hit the post with a header from a really good cross from Bridie Hipperson. Norwich deserved more goals for their excellent football, but the score remained 3-0 at full-time.

Gemma Farman received the Player of the Match award; Mel Rudd also had a very impressive match in midfield on her debut for Norwich.

Brandon U10 0, Norwich U10 Girls U10 1

In the early exchanges Brandon seemed to have the upper hand and strung together numerous attacks which Norwich defended well, restricting Brandon to only a few clear-cut chances on goal.

Norwich then managed to attack and Anya had a shot well saved by the Brandon keeper, Robyn’s follow-up shot went wide.

Brandon then broke through Norwich’s defence to get a shot away but Hannah pushed the ball over the bar. Norwich then scored when Nicole pounced onto a loose pass from the Brandon keeper to put Norwich in front.

Nicole then won the ball in midfield, passed the ball down the wing to Anya who crossed the ball into the box but Joanna could not reach the ball.

The second half saw a more confident Norwich side take the field. Brandon’s keeper spilt the ball but managed to recover before Anya could score.

Deep into the second half, Brandon pushed forward looking for the equalizer and pinned Norwich in their own half. Brandon continued to work the ball well and got a shot away which Hannah saved well.

Brandon continued to push forward and had the last shot of the game which went wide.

An excellent game and a great team performance, which gives the girls confidence going in to their top-of-the-table clash this week with Sprowston.
