Thorpe United Ladies 2, Haverhill 1
This game was played in very windy conditions, and it could have gone either way.
It started off evenly until Thorpe United took the first opportunity with Alice Ford taking a shot and the keeper spilling the ball for Lauren Kett to smash into back of net for 1-0.
From that moment on Thorpe were controlling the game and with Kerry’s Rose pass into box for Lauren Kett to slot her second of the game nicely into the bottom corner, 2-0.
Thorpe continued to pressure for another goal but unfortunately Charlotte Groves header into the net was disallowed due to offside.
Again the second half started off well matched, but the wind soon picked up and the game felt unpredictable, and with Haverhill dominating on the attacking chances the home coaches were showing frustration.
With some good passing from the home side and a good through-ball from Hannah to Bex she took a shot but unfortunately hit the crossbar and with no-one there to follow the shot up allowing Haverhill to clear the ball then there was an own goal due to lack of defensive communication.
The game finished 2-1, a hard game played in the wind.
Player of the match: Lauren Kett for her two goals and continuous hard work throughout.
Sprowston U11 Girls 5, Thorpe Utd Girls U11 0
Thorpe Girls put in another good performance and matched top-of-the-table Sprowston for the entire first half even having chances to take the lead, however against the strong wind after the break Sprowston’s pressure eventually broke Thorpe’s resistance and they scored three goals in quick succession, but the girls didn’t give up and battled to the end.
Sprowston deserved the win but two late goals made the scoreline rather flattering,
Player of the match chosen by the opposition was Keivy Day for some great goalkeeping, while Thorpe’s choice was India Betts for her excellent workrate and attitude.
