NWGFL round-up: Rebecca Russell and Chelsea Pettifer bag braces in Sprowston win over Stalham Town

Sprowston stayed on top in Division One of the Norfolk Women’s and Girls’ Football League thanks to a 5-1 win at Stalham Town Ladies.
Rebecca Russell and Chelsea Pettifer both bagged braces whilst Victoria Leyer was also on the scoresheet as Sprowston stayed on top having registered 13 points from their five games so far this season.
Thorpe United are right on their coat tails however in second place. Thorpe’s 3-1 win over North Walsham Ladies maintained their perfect start to the campaign and they will go top if they can win their game in hand over Sprowston.
Charlotte Groves (two) and Shanice Sutton got the goals for Thorpe at the weekend whilst Emma Faux replied for North Walsham.
Bungay Town Ladies are up to third after hitting Wymondham Town Ladies Reserves for six without reply.
Selina Rowland opened the scoring in the 12th minute thanks to a calm finish and Bungay made it 2-0 through Emily Leach’s headed goal.
The hosts made it 3-0 before half-time when Kathryn Stanley’s effort proved too hot to handle for the Wymondham goalkeeper.
A superb individual effort from Rowland made it 4-0 before Leach also grabbed her second of the match. Sam Walker completed the rout in the last minute.
In Division Two Beccles Town Ladies stayed on top thanks to Jordan Duke’s goal, which saw off the challenge of Kirkley & Pakefield Ladies.
The win took Beccles to 15 points from six games whilst FC Sprowston, who were without a game at the weekend, sit second having taken maximum points from their four games.
Tavern Ladies are third after their 6-0 victory at Toftwood United Ladies whilst Freethorpe Ladies gained their first win of the season thanks to an impressive 2-1 win at Costessey Sports Ladies.
Morley Ladies were the big winners in the seven-a-side division as they won 5-0 at Hellesdon Belle Ladies. Eleanor Smith hit a hat-trick whilst Rebecca Humphries and Gemma Newell were also on the scoresheet.
In the other fixture Harleston Town Ladies and Red Rose Ladies fought out a 1-1 draw.
