Chelsea Garrett struck a late winner to give Norwich City Ladies a 3-2 victory against Cambridge United Women at Plantation Park.

The City striker struck two minutes from time for her second of the afternoon as the home side deservedly claimed all three points.

Norwich were in the driving seat from the off and in the 20th minute Garrett opened the scoring, rounding the Cambridge keeper before calmly slotting home.

With their noses in front, Norwich put the visitors under yet more pressure and they were rewarded with a second just after the half-hour mark as Aimee Durrant scored from a tight ankle after a lightning counter attack.

However, Cambridge gained a foothold in the game just before half-time when Norwich gifted their opponents a penalty.

Amy Howlett stepped up for the visitors and struck the ball wide and to the left of Hope Armstrong, the Norwich keeper, who got a touch, but couldn’t get enough on it to keep the ball out.

Norwich looked confident at the start of the second half and appeared to be growing in confidence. However, Cambridge got back on level terms when Mollie Coupar was allowed a free header and made no mistake to make it 2-2 on 65 minutes.

Norwich rang the changes with Hayley Turner, Paige Shorten and Eliza McDonald coming on for Summer Ward, Emily Moerkerk and Luka Goodfield.

Norwich picked up the pace and played with a renewed purpose to take the game to Cambridge they got their reward two minutes from time as Garret scored her second of the match.

It meant the Canaries could celebrate a hard-earned three points before starting to prepare for their final match of the season at home to Luton Town Ladies next Sunday.
