The region’s two remaining sides saw their hopes of reaching the first round fall at the final hurdle yesterday.

Wymondham Town lost 2-0 at home to Bedford while Lowestoft Town were thumped 8-1 on their own turf by London Corinthians.

Alex Guy’s giant-killing ladies had seen off a Cambridge United side that play three levels above them in the last stage but couldn’t achieve the same feat against a Bedford team that play at the same tier as the U’s.

The manager of the Norfolk Division One club, playing in their first fourth qualifying round tie, said: “They’re three leagues above us and we matched them in all areas, created better chances and dominanted for large periods.

“It’s why we’re massively disappointed. The run has massively raised the profile of the club and we’ve done Wymondham, our league, and Norfolk proud.”

Premier South East Division One Lowestoft netted a consolation through Hannah Waters during their heavy defeat against a team from one tier below them.

Boss David Eastwood said: “The girls worked really hard and we’re a very young team that is always progressing.”
