King's Lynn's travel sickness finally put paid to their faint title hopes as they limped to a painful three-nil defeat at Yate Town.

Lynn keeper Shaun Marshall will be reflecting on his part in all three goals, as the Linnets failed to impress for a second successive away trip.

Only 12 out-field players made the trip to the West country, and Lynn must now be looking over their shoulders at the play-off places having again been comprehensively outplayed by a lesser team.

The two sides had cancelled each other out for the first 25 minutes before Matt O'Halloran finally created a chance.

The Lynn wide man burst through onto a Danny Bloomfield flick, but took two shots straight at Sam Pearce in the Yate goal.

This sparked a spell of end-to-end football with the visitors just on top. Bloomfield and Michael Frew both had chances, and Dean West was unlucky to see his free-kick hit the top of the bar.

But the home side came more and more into the game and finally took the lead on 42 minutes.

Marshall failed to hold Paul Chenoweth's 20 yard shot, and Adam Sims beat Lewis Blois to the ball to poke home.

Things went from bad to worse for Lynn 10 minutes after the break. A right wing corner was nodded down by Steve Jenkins as Marshall flapped and Jake Reid hammered home from 5 yards.

The blame for Yate's third goal lay entirely with Marshall. Aaron Blakemore spotted the 'keeper out of position and simply curled a free-kick into the near bottom corner.

The Linnets enjoyed a brief flurry towards the end but the game was already dead and buried.

With another long trip on the cards for Saturday they need to find some winning ways for the run-in.
